PFL World Tournament 3 main event: Impa Kasanganay betting breakdown
Former UFC fighter Impa Kasanganay was best known for a viral knockout loss before he signed with the PFL and went on to win the 2023 PFL light heavyweight tournament. To his credit, Kasanganay took that spinning back kick loss to Joaquin Buckley in stride, rebuilding himself into a better fighter, and man. Since he signed with the PFL he has an 8-2 record with his only losses coming in a title fight against Bellator champion Johnny Elben and in the 2024 PFL light heavyweight tournament final.
Kasanganay was mostly a grappler earlier in his career. Before 2022, he had zero knockout wins when he fought at middleweight and welterweight. A move to middleweight and then light heavyweight after leaving the UFC in 2021 found him packing on muscle and finding he had power in his strikes. He pushes forward and forces his opponent to fight off his back foot. Kasanganay is a very relaxed and confident fighter with a fair amount of speed in his strikes. He also puts out a decent amount of volume. Kasanganay also has excellent cardio, allowing him to set and sustain a fast pace. He has five stoppage wins, four via knockout and one by submission since moving to the PFL.
While Kasanganay is a powerful striker, he has a composed approach to his fights and does not overextend himself or take unnecessary risks.
PFL World Tournament 3 main event: Fabian Edwards betting breakdown
Fabian Edwards opened his MMA career on a 9-0 run. That winning streak ended in 2020 when he dropped back-to-back decisions to Costello van Steenis and Austin Vanderford. He followed that with a 4-2 run, where his only defeats were Bellator title fight defeats at the hands of Johnny Eblen.
Edwards is a very good striker. He manages distance well, but he struggled with the wrestling and clinch work of Eblen. Kasanganay is not the same level of wrestler as Eblen, but he is very good in that department when he needs to be. Edwards needs to force Kasanganay to compete in the open, using his forward pressure while at the same time staying off the cage. Edwards did not accept the takedowns from Eblen, bouncing off the mat well, but he did struggle to break free from Eblen’s grasp against the fence. If Edwards has not worked on breaking out of the clinch, it could be a long night for him on Friday night.
