The main event bout on the UFC 275 pay-per-view card is a light heavyweight title fight between two different generations of 205-pound competitors. In one corner, is the 42-year-old champion, Glover Teixeira, who made his MMA debut in 2002. In the other corner is Jiri Prochazka, who is the No. 2 ranked fighter in the official UFC light heavyweight rankings. The 29-year-old, a former Rizin light heavyweight titleholder, made his MMA debut in 2012.
In the evening’s co-main event, UFC women’s flyweight champion Valentina Shevchenko (22-3) faces the No. 4 ranked Taila Santos (19-1).
Before those title fights, two former UFC strawweight champions meet in a rematch. Those fighters, are Zhang Weili and Joanna Jedrzejczyk. The first meeting between these two took place in March 2020. The fight, which was the co-main event of UFC 248, was one of the best fights of that year and might be the best women’s scrap in UFC history. Zhang, who held the 115-pound UFC title at the time, won a split decision in that 25-minute battle.

Zhang vs. Jedrzejczyk breakdown and analysis
Zhang Weili moved to 21-1 with her win over Joanna Jedrzejczyk. The fight marked her first defense of the UFC strawweight title. It was her only successful defense. Following that win, Rose Namajunas knocked out Zhang in the first round of their UFC 261 matchup. A split decision loss to Namajunas in their November 2021 rematch followed. Zhang has not fought since that setback.
Jedrzejczyk has not competed since she first faced Zhang. She is 2-4 dating back to 2017 when Namajunas knocked her out to claim the UFC title. That loss ended Jedrzejczyk’s title run at five defenses. She lost a decision to Namajunas in the rematch. She then failed to unseat lightweight champion Valentina Shevchenko in 2018. Her wins are decisions over Tecia Torres (2018) and Michelle Waterson (2019).
Zhang is the No. 2 fighter in the official UFC strawweight rankings. Jedrzejczyk is unranked because of inactivity.
In their first meeting, these two threw a combined 783 strikes. Jedrzejczyk was more accurate and landed more, but the judges saw the damage in favor of Zhang as Jedrzejczyk left the octagon with an alarming hematoma on her forehead.
The time off for Jedrzejczyk is an enormous concern. Zhang was busier than Jedrzejczyk in three of the five rounds in their first meeting and attempted 195 strikes against 160 for Jedrzejczyk to close the fight. Jedrzejczyk cannot afford a slow start in this matchup, nor will she have the time to knock off any ring rust against someone as aggressive as Zhang.
Jedrzejczyk is still only 34, but her air of invincibility has faded since her heyday over five years ago. Zhang is one of the fighters who has passed Jedrzejczyk by and this fight will emphasize that fact.
Pick: Zhang Weili to beat Joanna Jedrzejczyk.
Betting value with Zhang
Both these women excel in striking. Zhang has 10 knockout wins in her career, but only one since she joined the UFC. Jedrzejczyk opened her UFC run with two knockouts in her first four fights. Since then she has not had a knockout win.
As for KO losses, each woman has one knockout defeat and Namajunas is responsible for both those setbacks.
I think Zhang wins this fight and I can see a situation where damage would lead the referee to wave things off. Jedrzejczyk is incredibly tough and if an experienced referee is in the cage with these two women, I think that ref will give Jedrzejczyk every opportunity to extend this fight the distance.
One thing that favors this fight going the full distance is that it is only scheduled for three rounds. That fact also favors Zhang because I think she will be in better fight shape and come out with more aggression than Jedrzejczyk.
Prediction: Zhang Weili to beat Joanna Jedrzejczyk via decision.
What’s at stake
With Carla Esparza defeating Namajunas to become UFC strawweight champion, there is a chance that the winner of this fight could land a title fight in their next outing, especially if this bout resembles the first meeting between these two.
