Brazil vs Japan Odds & Prediction

Brazil has been absolutely cruising through the Nations League so far and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see them back in a final, having gone 10-2 in the preliminary rounds. They’ve only dropped one set in their last three matches and comfortably took care of Thailand on July 2nd in four sets, their last match before this quarterfinal. Julia Isabelle Bergmann led the way for the Brazilians with 17 block assists and 15 attack points. Libero Natalia Araujo was also brilliant, notching 13 digs in the match. Prior to beating Thailand, Brazil defeated Bulgaria and Korea in straight sets. They were in the final in each of the last two tournaments but lost to the States. Needless to say, Brazil is looking for revenge and a victory on Wednesday would move them one step closer to it.

Japan just advanced through to the final round with an 8-4 record, finishing in fifth place. However, they actually finished the preliminaries in very poor form, losing their final three matches to Turkey, Serbia, and Belgium. Although the game against the Belgians was close, falling in a full five sets, the Japanese certainly have a very tall task ahead here. Captain Koga Sarina led the way in this match with 24 attack points and 25 block assists, but she didn’t get a lot of help. Japan didn’t play Brazil in the prelims, they did hand the USA their only loss, beating them in straight sets. That’s a very good sign ahead of another tough one.

Brazil is simply too powerful and has too many weapons. I have to take them here on the moneyline in the Women’s Volleyball Nations League picks.

USA vs Serbia Odds & Prediction

The US continues its pursuit of a fourth-straight gold in the Nations League on Wednesday, but Serbia won’t be an easy match by any means. The Americans, led by Kathryn Plummer and Micha Hancock, cruised through the preliminary round, going 11-1. As previously mentioned, their only defeat came against Japan. Eight of their victories were in straight sets, too. The Americans collected three consecutive wins to close out the opening round, most recently taking down Germany, three sets to one. Sarah Wilhite proved to be the difference-maker here, putting up very solid numbers across the board including 24 block assists, four block points, and two serve points. The States also beat Serbia already in straight sets.

The Serbs finished in sixth place with an 8-4 record and finished up the preliminary round with a pair of victories on the same day against Canada and Japan. In fact, they went 3-1 in their last four matches and come into this one in very solid shape. After dropping the first set to the Japanese, Serbia stormed back and won three straight. Outside hitter Katarina Lazovic had 22 block assists and 20 attack points to lead the way, while Maja Aleksic and Katarina Lazovic combined four seven key blocks. The Serbians are definitely on quite the roll at the moment but the US is very experienced at this stage and will be difficult to move past. Brazil is at a similar level as the States and they dominated Serbia, winning in three sets including a blowout second set of a 25-9 score.

I’d love to give the Serbs a chance here, but I don’t really believe they’re capable of beating the Americans. Plus, the defending champions took care of them in the prelims. It’ll be the same outcome this time around. Take the US in the Women’s Volleyball Nations League picks.
