Netherlands beat Spain, Australia and Chile in an impressive matter; after the group stage they became one of the favorites to win it all.
“It’s all about winning so I use the system I think will let me win… that’s what I think football is,” Netherlands coach Louis Van Gaal said. You have to evaluate a strategy that will help you win, and this is the proof in the pudding. We’re not giving away games and we’re winning.”
Mexico qualified second in group B after seven points earned; just behind Brazil for goal differential; however, they have never been into the fifth game; the Mexicans always pass the group stage but never make it to the next.
“We see a lot of mistakes in our matches, the US and Costa Rica haven’t had that. It’s against Mexico, I’m talking about the games that Mexico have played,” said Mexican coach Miguel Herrera. We are disturbed by the refereeing situation, in two out of three matches it has gone against us. We had two goals disallowed and FIFA has already reacted by sending home the linesman.”
