World Cup Group F Betting Briefing

With only one goal from a total of 180 minutes of football so far, Group F may appear to be the least interesting section in the tournament, but although the goalmouth action has been at a premium, both encounters so far have been fascinating, and the Group is shaping up to be a must-watch section.

Belgium would have been expecting to pick up three points from their opener and from this game too, putting them through to the knockout stages, but they had to work hard to get their win over Canada and they will have noted how difficult Morocco were to break down against Croatia.

Still, Roberto Martinez’s team has over the years proven adept at getting through the knockout stages of major competitions and will not be fazed by this particular challenge. They will also be hopeful that Canada might get a result against Croatia in the other Group game.

Martinez Hoping for Improvement

So far so good for Belgium, at least when it comes to the points table, but there were significant concerns in their opening win over Canada and Martinez will be aware that improvement is required.

Canada’s lively midfield at times appeared to be on top in that game, and in particular, were able to expose the relative lack of pace of the Belgium central players, something that will have alarmed the manager and many Belgium fans and journalists.

With sharper finishing and more composure in the penalty area, Canada may even have got a draw out of that game, and had they done so, it would not have been an injustice. Changes are certain to be made for this match, as Martinez will want his team to stamp their authority on the game from the start, and both Amadou Onana and Thomas Meunier may be in line for a place in the starting lineup.

Morocco Not to be Underestimated

Morocco have lost only two of their last 41 competitive internationals going back over the last three years, and their ability to withstand pressure and grind out a draw was once again on display in their opening game as they frustrated the 2018 World Cup runners-up Croatia.

Croatia are known to be slow starters in major tournaments, but this was still an impressive showing from Morocco, who looked the more cohesive team at times, and with a bit of luck could have won the game.

With that point gained, Morocco will be aiming to do the same again against Belgium, and will hope that their more fancied opponents will become frustrated as the game wears on. They also pose a goal threat, and have top quality players of their own, so they cannot be underestimated or written off as a purely defensive team.

World Cup Group F Match Betting

Belgium’s performance against Canada was not impressive, and they seemed powerless to stem the waves of Canadian attacks in the first half. More worrying was the impression that this was an ageing group who looked suddenly vulnerable against one of the weaker teams in the tournament.

That said, experience counts for something, and the experience of Thibaut Courtois once again saved the day. Ultimately, all that mattered was that they got the result and their ability to grind out wins during the Group stages of major competitions cannot be overlooked.

The other factor in their favor here is that Morocco are not likely to test the older legs in the Belgium midfield, instead focusing on being tough to beat.

For all the concerns arising from that opening game, Belgium remain one of the strongest squads in the tournament, with a host of match-winners to call upon. There may have been a little overreaction on the part of the bookies after the opening round of games and Belgium offer a touch of value in the match betting market for this game.
