- BetOnline allows you to wager on past and present WWE superstars such as The Rock (+550), Roman Reigns (+1200), Brock Lesnar (+1600) and John Cena (+2500)
- The January, 2023 event is rumored to be taking place at the 64,000-seat Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas
Given the WWE Royal Rumble does not yet even have an official date or location, it’s probably too early to speculate on what performer might win the January pay-per-view. However, since the last man standing in the ring will book himself a title shot at WrestleMania 39, we know WWE brass must pick a superstar capable of selling tickets and PPVs for their signature event this spring.

Cody Rhodes opens as the favorite
Cody Rhodes (-115) missed the WWE’s latest PPV, Clash At The Castle, with a torn pec that was originally speculated to keep him out until at least The Royal Rumble. Recent reports say the WWE has big plans for the “American Nightmare”, the son of wrestling legend Dusty Rhodes, but a few potential obstacles remain in Rhodes’ way.
One, the former AEW star is apparently not a favorite of Triple H, who is now in charge of creative at the company following Vince McMahon’s resignation. Secondly, there’s rumors of The Rock squaring off against Roman Reigns at Wrestlemania 39, in a match that would be a far bigger draw than what Rhodes could offer.

Roman Reigns remains a poor bet
Roman Reigns (+1200) has not lost a match in almost three years, so there’s more than a good chance he holds on to the strap until Wrestlemania 39 in Los Angeles’ So Fi Stadium on April 2, 2023. And since it’s the Royal Rumble winner who gets the title shot, that would seem to eliminate the reigning Universal Champion.
More WWE superstars
Brock Lesnar (+1600) is a terrible bet. The Beast Incarnate won the 2021 Royal Rumble, before falling to Reigns at SummerSlam, so there’s absolutely no storyline to be mined here.
John Cena (+2500) appeared on Monday Night RAW in July to celebrate the 20th anniversary of his WWE debut. After not being on the card for this year’s SummerSlam, the 16-time world champion could return at Wrestlemania to break the record he shares with WWE Hall of Famer Ric Flair.

Seth Rollins (+1200) and Randy Orton (+2500) both appear to be out of the mix. Before defeating Matt Riddle in an instant classic in the UK last Saturday, Riddle stole two of The Viper’s moves, a mid-rope DDT and an RKO, setting the stages for a Wrestlemania encounter between the two superstars.
Best bet
Triple H is a businessman who knows what his father-in-law wants. Therefore, we can safely fade the narrative that a beef exists between the corporation’s Creative Head and Cody Rhodes.
Furthermore, WWE needs two big-time matches for Wrestlemania 39, which now stretches over two nights. That means the superstar-turned-executive is more likely to come out of retirement himself to face The Rock, leaving The American Nightmare to win the Royal Rumble (-115) and face Reigns at the WWE’s signature event in April.
