It’s going to be a long process until betting makes its way to the state, as things are totally up in the air right now. Jones has also been very vocal about the positive impact that sports betting would have, as Dallas Cowboys supporters would surely be all over it once things get launched. NFL betting in Texas would be sky-high, as the Cowboys are always going to have a lot of eyes on them. The Cowboys are a powerhouse and their epic rivalries make football even more fun.
This season, Dak Prescott and Co. have looked fantastic and they’re holding pretty decent Super Bowl betting odds these days. The Eagles remain the favorites to not only win the NFC East, but also the NFC. However, with the way the Dallas defense has been playing, coupled with the strong play of Prescott, we could see Dallas make a ton of noise in the playoffs. Things would only be made better if legal betting was allowed, but that might not come until ’25 at the earliest.
“There’s a huge amount of gaming going on in and around sports at this time,” Jones said not long ago. “And, so, to have all of the benefits or all of the control over it, it needs to be recognized and parameters put on it and discipline put in it. Then, also the benefits that go, can go in Texas, could adhere to the right kind of people, or some property tax. Certainly help educate our great state’s children. All of those things can be enhanced by something that’s presently going on in a big, big way.”
Jones wants to see things regulated, as he knows that there are a ton of illegal wagers being placed consistently. This is a problem that isn’t going away in Texas. The only way for things to be improved would be for legal sports betting to be presented in Texas Jones and Cuban won’t stop pushing for this. There was hope that 2023 would be the year, but nothing positive came to light, which was a bummer for so many people out there.

Luckily, a sports betting bill has already been pre-filed. This shows that lawmakers are hitting the ground running trying to get things ready for the next legislative session. It’s going to be important for everyone to get on the same page moving forward.
We’ve seen a lot of division among Republicans and Democrats, which has been pretty disappointing to see. However, if the two parties can work together and meet in the middle to get the right bill drawn up, then it could be monumental for the state. With Texas being so big and people paying close attention to MLB betting, NFL betting and more, it only makes sense for sports wagers to be made legal down the road. We could look back on 2025 being the year things finally got across the line here.
