The inaugural season of Dota 2 PGL Wallachia kicks off on Friday, May 10, with 16 teams starting in the Group Stage of the Esports event. The tournament runs through Sunday, May 19, when the winner of the Grand Final takes home the lion’s share of the $1 million prize pool for the event.
Ten of the best teams in the world received direct invites to the Dota 2 tournament: Team Liquid, Gaimin Gladiators, Team Falcons, Team Secret, BetBoom Team, Team Spirit, Xtreme Gaming, HEROIC, Shopify Rebellion, and Aurora. The remaining six teams made their way to the PGL Wallachia Season 1 event through closed qualifiers. Those teams are: Tundra Esports,Virtus.pro, G2.iG, Blacklist International, Nouns, and BOOM Esports.
The Group Stage will be played in a Swiss format. The top eight clubs from the Group Stage move on to the Playoffs, which will be played in a double-elimination bracket. The Group and Playoff Stages will be best-of-three. The Grand Final will be a best-of-five format.

Team Falcons
The No. 1 ranked Dota 2 team in the world, Team Falcons, are having a great 2024. The club, which plays out of Saudi Arabia, has three first-place finishes and one runner-up so far this year. Team Falcons won the following tournaments in 2024: BetBoom Dacha Dubai 2024, DreamLeague Season 22, and ESL One Birmingham 2024. The team placed second to Xtreme Gaming at the Elite League event. In total, Team Falcons have picked up $1.15 million in prize money in those tournaments.
The current Team Falcons roster came together in November 2023 with all new members joining the club at that time.
The favorites in this event, Team Falcons were also the betting favorites for ESL One Birmingham 2024, where they had betting odds of +300 to win, because of the way they are performing so far this year, those odds are much tighter for PGL Wallachia Season 1.
Xtreme Gaming

BetBoom has runner-up finishes at ESL One Birmingham and DreamLeague Season 22, losing to Team Falcons in each of those events. The team has also finished in 11th-12th in the Elite League event and in the No. 3 spot at BetBoom Dacha Dubai 2024. With how they have been playing, BetBoom is a team one could consider as a possible finalist at PGL Wallachia Season 1, but their struggles against Team Falcons need to be considered when picking a team to win this event.
