Why It’s Better to Use Offshore Betting Sites Over the Legal Ones
Massachusetts has a fully legal sports betting market, but offshore sportsbooks still hold key advantages that many bettors prefer. The sites we recommend offer a smoother, less restricted experience and often more value than the licensed operators in the state.
Why Offshore Sportsbooks Are Often the Better Choice:
Better Odds and Higher Payouts
Offshore sportsbooks can offer more competitive lines because they aren’t weighed down by Massachusetts taxes and regulation costs.
No State-Based Limitations
With offshore sites, you’re not locked to your state’s borders or location verification tools. You can place bets from anywhere.
No Data Sharing With U.S. Authorities
Legal sportsbooks in Massachusetts may be required to share certain user data with regulatory bodies. Offshore books don’t.
Wider Range of Betting Markets
Offshore sportsbooks cover betting categories that are banned or limited in Massachusetts—like political outcomes, global events, or niche sports.
Cryptocurrency Support
Offshore books often allow crypto deposits and withdrawals, offering faster, more secure, and anonymous transactions.
Lower Betting Minimums
Casual bettors can wager smaller amounts without being pushed into higher-risk bets.
Fewer Limits on Winning Players
Many U.S. books restrict or ban sharp bettors. Offshore sportsbooks are less likely to limit successful accounts.
Stronger Bonuses and Promotions
Offshore platforms tend to offer larger welcome bonuses, more aggressive reload promotions, and more frequent incentives.
Faster Account Creation
No long ID checks or location approvals. Offshore registration is simple and quick.
No Automatic Tax Withholding
Unlike Massachusetts sportsbooks, offshore platforms do not withhold taxes from your winnings.
What You Can’t Bet on in Massachusetts
Legal sportsbooks in Massachusetts have notable restrictions, including:
- No betting on in-state college player props
- No bets on politics or entertainment
- Limited esports coverage
- More tightly regulated in-play/live betting
Offshore sites give you access to all of these betting categories with no restrictions.
Who Can Legally Bet in Massachusetts
To legally place a bet in Massachusetts through a regulated sportsbook, you must meet the following:
- Be 21 or older
- Be physically located within the state at the time of betting
- Residency is not required, but location verification is mandatory
Restrictions apply to:
- Athletes, coaches, and officials involved in sporting events
- Employees of sportsbooks or gambling regulators
- League executives or individuals with potential influence over outcomes
- People on Massachusetts’ self-exclusion or restriction lists
Offshore Sportsbooks Have Fewer Barriers
- Most platforms accept players 18+
- No location-based restrictions — bet from anywhere
- Faster sign-up, fewer regulations, and immediate access to full betting markets

Navigating the online sports betting industry in Massachusetts can be a bit of a challenge. As such, we make life easier for our readers by providing them with five important qualities to look out for when searching through online bookmakers.
Customer Service
This is paramount. When you’re discussing money, and money in big quantities, it’s absolutely imperative that you have someone you can rely on looking after your funds. When deciding on a sportsbook, make sure to check for things like how quickly they respond, their availability, and the different support options they provide. We would advise looking for all, or at least a few, of these qualities as a part of any online provider:
- Live Chat
- Call Center
- Email Service
- Forums
- FAQs
Bovada has been around for a long time and is a well-known and beloved sportsbook.
Broad Range of Betting Lines
Certain sportsbooks focus on particular betting lines, while the vast majority offer a broad range of betting markets. We would advise finding a sportsbook provider that offers the kinds of betting options you’re interested in—whether it be NBA, NFL, or whatever market suits you, ensure that the sportsbook you’re depositing with follows that market.
Access
This is a fairly obvious point to make. But, many sportsbooks are difficult to access due to state and national laws regarding online wagering. As such, we’d suggest that bettors ensure the sportsbook they intend to deposit at offers access to players in Massachusetts.
WagerWeb is a great example of this. They are always among the first to update their odds, really setting the industry’s tone.
Reputation
Similar to what we mentioned with customer service when it comes to reputation you want to be sure you’re working with a sportsbook that has your best interests at heart. This means, protecting your funds and data, as well as ensuring that you’re dealing with an organization that you can trust is very important.
Everygame has great customer service, especially their live chat, available 24/7.
Promotions and Bonuses
Promotions and bonuses are available throughout the year, with almost any sportsbook you’re thinking of depositing with. As such, be sure to make the most of these bonuses and promotions. This means finding a sportsbook that provides a great “welcome bonus” and features a number of seasonal promotions, which often follow the major sports leagues and events.
