2023

Fonner Park’s construction for a new casino with retail sports betting began in Grand Island. Omaha approved a second WarHorse Casino, the state’s third retail sports betting location. WarHorse Casino Lincoln celebrated its first anniversary, and the Grand Island Casino Resort opened, contributing to Nebraska’s expanding sports betting landscape.

2021

With the green light from the voter referendum, the legislature was able to change Nebraska gambling laws in May. Now we are simply waiting on the Nebraska Racing and Gaming Commission to set up the regulatory structure.

2020

Senator Wayne proposed three bills to legalize sports betting in Nebraska. The first would have opened up poker and fantasy sports. Another would have allowed for online sports betting in Nebraska, The last would have left it up to the votes. However, none of them moved out of committee.

Luckily, voters were able to get a referendum on the ballot in November. They approved this referendum.

2019

Nebraska was not fast out of the gate on sports betting. Several states ended up legalizing sports betting during this year, even though Nebraska did not see much progress in this arena.

2018

The Supreme Court finally made it possible for each state to decide its own destiny in terms of sports betting. Until the 2018 decision Murphy v. National Collegiate Athletic Association, only a few states were able to legalize and regulate sports betting. This court case opened up the debate across the country.
