In recent years, there have been different initiatives put in front of legislation, but nothing has been able to get done. Next door in North Carolina, legal sports wagers are coming in January. However, the North Carolina online betting delay could have a big impact on South Carolina.

According to multiple reports, there’s a chance that online betting for NC may not come until early June. If that’s the case, then it’s going to only add to the stress for betting proponents. However, this is also important for South Carolina for several reasons. For starters, don’t forget that officials in SC are looking at how things play out in North Carolina to help model a sports betting bill for the future.

On top of that, people in South Carolina are also counting down the days for NC betting to be made legal so that they can travel across state lines and post their bets too. You better believe that tourism from South Carolina to North Carolina is going to be sky-high once betting arrives. However, if no online betting is put in place to start, that will have people in South Carolina rethinking their travel plans.

However, the fact that North Carolina is moving forward with legal betting should provide people in SC with a lot of optimism.

Right now, the general feeling is that unless some sort of a miracle arrives, there will be no legal sports betting in South Carolina for 2024. The good thing here, though, is with things moving forward in North Carolina, people can cross state lines and get their bets in over there. That will just be a temporary solution until things get done for South Carolina. So, with 2024 not being likely, what about 2025?

From our chair, 2025 feels like the most likely option for South Carolina. This will give officials more than enough time to try and put the right sports betting bill in place. The last thing anyone wants to see is some sort of a bill get put together too quickly. We’ve seen that happen in the past and nothing good or positive has come from it. These kinds of things need to be properly developed and not rushed.

There are plenty of people who are hoping for legal SC betting, but there are also a lot of folks against it. Gambling addiction has been at the center of the negative discussions on this project. However, no one can deny the fact that the betting revenue potential for South Carolina would be quite high. This is something politicians need to meet in the middle about. Once they do, then some good news on this betting effort could be on the way.

This time of year too, South Carolina continues to miss out on revenue for the football season and it’s a major bummer. While there are no professional teams in the state, people love checking the NFL betting odds in the fall and seeing where some of their favorite teams stack up. However, no legal bets are being put in place. The illegal action is climbing, which is concerning across the board.

There’s a long process ahead for this sports betting push, but with the way things are going in North Carolina, it could lead to history being made for SC as well.
