Missouri Pro Teams Are Furious Legal Sports Betting is Still Not Allowed

With so many incredible sports teams in the state, it is senseless that the Missouri Sports betting efforts have fallen short in recent years. For a lot of people out there, they are blaming Senator Denny Hoskins for the state getting in the way of getting things across the line. Hoskins has indeed been a major reason why sports bills haven’t passed. With that said, Missouri pro teams are furious legal sports betting is still now allowed and Hoskins is a major reason why.

Just recently, St. Louis Cardinals president Bill DeWitt III has taken up a major issue with the state Senator, calling him out publicly recently for failing to help lawmakers and officials from being able to speed up the process. Legal sports betting is wanted by millions of people in Missouri. DeWitt knows how big legal MLB betting could be for Cardinals fans, which is why he’s so upset with Hoskins.

“We don’t think Denny is serious,” DeWitt said recently via an interview. “The definition of insanity, this situation is in the dictionary. The door for negotiation is always open. But when you insist on doing the business of Illinois gray-machine companies, it makes it tough.”

DeWitt really didn’t hold back there and plenty of people have voiced their support for him following his eye-opening comments. The fact of the matter here is that Missouri is standing pat on the sports betting efforts while states elsewhere are pushing forward. Nearly 40 states have legalized sports betting, but Missouri doesn’t appear close to getting the green light. This is something that people will change as soon as possible.

Missouri is missing out on major MLB wagers this summer

What adds to the frustration for DeWitt and the Cardinals organization as a whole is that Missouri is missing out on major MLB wagers this summer. The Cardinals are in a bit of a down year, but that doesn’t take away from the fact that they’re one of the most popular teams in the region. St. Louis is a historic baseball club, which has led to people checking the MLB betting odds for them passionately – the big problem though is that no legal wagers are permitted.

With the second half of the MLB season here too, people would love nothing more than to bet on the NL Central club, as they’re hoping to go on a big run to surprise a lot of people. However, people all over the state are either going to have to get their bets in through illegal means, or by traveling outside of state lines to get something done. This is something people want changed soon, but Hoskins is doing his best to prevent that.

In states like New York and Ohio, we are seeing some truly big numbers in recent months. MLB betting is a primary reason for that, as teams across the board are putting together some impressive seasons. Over in Atlanta, the Braves are putting together a year to remember, as they currently hold the No. 1 World Series betting odds. Not only that, but the Rays, Astros, Dodgers, Yankees and others will be squads to keep an eye on.

With the Cardinals in particular, it has been a major surprise that they’ve been so inconsistent. However, with so much talent in their lineup and for the rotation/bullpen, you’ve got to figure that they’ll catch fire soon. DeWitt is hopeful that his team’s fans will be able to bet on their outcomes by 2024 or 2025 at the latest, but it’ll be a tough challenge unless Hoskins stops being so closed-minded.

NFL betting in Missouri will be strong if the laws change down the road

Outside of baseball, there’s simply no question that NFL betting in Missouri will be strong if the laws change down the road. That’s because Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs are in line for another massive season in 2023. Last year, the Chiefs put together an exceptional campaign, highlighted by them taking down the Philadelphia Eagles in early February to capture another Super Bowl title.

People all over Missouri are huge fans of the Chiefs and they have strong belief that they’ll be able to go back-to-back this season. With that said, you already know that people are going to constantly be checking the Super Bowl betting odds for the AFC West powerhouse. Mahomes is also the favorite to take home MVP honors for the second consecutive season. Yeah, the star QB is simply that good.

It won’t be easy for Mahomes and the Chiefs to win another title, as the Eagles, Cowboys, Bengals, Ravens, Giants and others are going to be ready to try and make a ton of noise this fall and winter as well. Unfortunately for local citizens, they’ll have to watch all of the NFL action and not be able to put down a cent on things for betting. We’ll see if that changes once the 2024 NFL season arrives, but there’s not a lot of optimism there. Hopefully this changes one day sooner than later.
