The first edition of the Free Fire SEA Invitational tournament takes place between May 12-28, 2023, in Thailand. The Esports event replaces the mid-year Free Fire World Series. The Free Fire SEA Invitational (FFSI) features 18 teams from across Asia. The teams are hunting for a portion of the $300,000 prize pool for the event. The tournament winner takes home $100,000, while the runner-up earns $40,000.

18 teams start the Free Fire SEA Invitational 2023 tournament. To open the event, the squads are split into three groups of six teams. The group stage will take place from May 12 to May 14 and from May 19 to May 21. The group stage will follow a round-robin format, and each team will play 24 matches. Following the group stage, the top 12 teams face off in the Grand Finals, which take place between May 26 and May 28.

Last year’s winner of the Free Fire World Series, Attack All Around, who took home $500,000 for the win, failed to qualify for this year’s event. However, the runner-up in 2022, EVOS Phoenix, are in the field for the 2023 version of the Free Fire SEA Invitational. The winner of this year’s tournament secures a spot in the Free Fire World Series 2023, which takes place later this year.

Vasto Mundo

Beginning the 2023 Free Fire SEA Invitational in Group B, Vasto Mundo come into the event with a first-place finish at the recent Free Fire Europe Championship tournament. The team plays out of Portugal. It is the only European team participating in the event. Vasto Mundo has done well in smaller events, but outside of a third-place finish at the Free Fire World Series 2022, the squad has struggled to break through in more prestigious tournaments. They placed eighth at the Free Fire World Series 2022 Bangkok event. The Vasto Mundo roster playing in Thailand has been together since 2021.

Team Flash

Team Flash starts the 2023 Free Fire SEA Invitational in Group A. The Vietnamese club qualified for the event by finishing in first place at the March 12 VFL Spring 2023 – Battle Royale qualifying event. Team Flash is one of four clubs that qualified for the 2023 Free Fire SEA Invitational from that event.

It will be interesting to see how Team Flash does against the level of competition it will face in Thailand. The team has not had much success in high-level tournaments, placing 10th at the Free Fire World Series Sentosa 2022 and 15th at Free Fire World Series 2022 Bangkok.
