- Detroit (5-2) is a 9-point home favorite over Las Vegas (3-4) in Week 8 of the NFL season
- Jimmy Garoppolo has yet to be medically cleared from a back injury but is expected to return
- Monday Night Football on ESPN kicks off from Ford Field in Detroit, MI at 8:15 pm ET
Just as excitement was reaching a fever pitch in the Motor City, the Lions were demolished by Baltimore 38-6 on Sunday. Luckily for Dan Campbell’s squad, they have a matchup on tap with Josh McDaniels’ Raiders. Las Vegas is coming off a beatdown of their own, falling to the Bears 30-12 in week 7.
Which team will rebound on Monday Night Football? Before we check the odds and make our picks, here’s where you can find the best Super Bowl betting tips and the top betting sites for NFL football in 2023.

Jared Goff better at home
Jared Goff has some truly ridiculous home-road splits over the past two seasons. The 29-year-old has thrown 32 touchdowns in 12 home games versus 10 TDs in a dozen away games. Mr. Hyde showed up in Baltimore in week 7, tossing a number of wayward passes, no scores and a pick. But, we should get Mr. Jekyll back in Detroit this Sunday. Goff has passed for 7 TDs, 2 INT in three home contests in 2023.
While Las Vegas is allowing the fifth-fewest passing yards per week (187.4), they just got lit up by a Bears teams starting rookie Tyson Bagent. With David Montgomery still on the shelf, No. 12 overall pick Jamyr Gibbs should feast against the Raiders’ bottom-ten run defense.

Josh McDaniels losing the team?
While Las Vegas’ record is a respectable 3-4, there are sure signs that Josh McDaniels is losing his team. From Davante Adams’ public complaints about the offense, to questionable in-game coaching decisions, to the fact that he started journeyman Brian Hoyer in last week’s loss to Chicago, things aren’t looking great to say the least.
Jimmy Garoppolo is expected to return from a back injury, but has yet to be medically cleared. His presence would give the Raiders a fighting chance. Otherwise, Josh Jacobs is set up for another miserable afternoon against a Lions D permitting the second-fewest rushing yards per game (76.3) in the NFL.
Detroit vs Las Vegas
Detroit is a 9-point favorite at Ford Field on Monday night with the over/under set at 45.5 points. The Lions have scored the eighth-most points per game (24.9) league wide and are averaging over 30 points per game at home.
Las Vegas is 1-3 on the road with their sole win coming in Denver in week 1. Their other two home victories came against suspect competition in the Patriots and the Packers.

Battle of star pass rushers
The Raiders’ only hope comes in the form of Maxx Crosby. The star edge rusher has 6.5 sacks, 40 tackles and nine tackles for loss this season. Monday’s game will be a kind of a homecoming for the former Eastern Michigan product, who will be facing a Lions team that gave up 21 QB pressures in week 7’s loss to the Ravens.
Detroit has a stud defensive end of their own, of course, who also played his college ball in the state of Michigan. Aidan Hutchinson has 4.5 sacks, 22 tackles and four TFLs this season – impressive numbers that still pale in comparison to Crosby’s.
Best Bet
If Jimmy Garoppolo suits up, the Raiders cover. If not, this one will get ugly in a hurry.
While you should keep your eyes peeled on the injury report, we’ll take the Lions to cover the 9 points with the UNDER 45.5.
