Georgia Lawmakers Are Optimistic for Legal Sports Betting in 2024

Earlier this year, there was countless heartbreak with the Georgia sports betting news that things would not be legalized this year. There was a lot of promise that things would get over the line, as sports fans were excited about the idea of being able to place legal wagers on NFL, MLB, NBA and college football action. That won’t be the case, though. However, Georgia lawmakers are optimistic for legal sports betting in 2024.

According to a report, Senator Bill Cowsert has voiced his excitement about things potentially getting across the board next year. It’s not going to be easy, but the wheels are already in motion there. With Cowsert and other officials working closely to get the right sports betting bill presented for legislation to look at, there’s hope that the nightmare from 2023 can be put in the past at this time next year.

Not long ago, it was reported that Georgia was on the brink of getting sports betting done for its citizens to take advantage of. With this, people were excited about potentially being able to check the NFL betting odds and putting money down on the Atlanta Falcons, easily the most popular professional football squad in the state. However, that won’t be the case, as Week 1 bets for the Falcons won’t go down in Georgia.

However, there’s a great chance that things will be different once the fall of ’24 rolls around. Cowsert and several others in office are going to be working overtime to try and make sure that betting can be put in place. It was a shock that things fell through this spring, but people are motivated to make sure history can be made in the state. Georgians want to see this happen and they’re hoping that the long wait for betting will end soon enough.

Georgia has monstrous sports betting potential down the road

When taking a look at the big picture of things, Georgia has monstrous sports betting potential down the road. Starting with the NFL, everyone in the state would surely love to dip their toes in Atlanta Falcons betting. Then in the MLB and NBA, the Atlanta Braves and Atlanta Hawks have a huge following. With the Braves, there’s no question that they’re one of the most exciting teams in the bigs.

Atlanta, led by Ronald Acuña Jr., has seen their World Series betting odds skyrocket since the start of the season. As things stand, Atlanta holds the top MLB betting odds to win the Fall Classic. This has been great to see for manager Brian Snitker, as his young group of guys have played beyond expectations. Austin Riley, Acuña, Matt Olson, Ozzie Albies and more have been a pleasure to watch.

It’s not going to be easy for the Braves to win their second title in the past three years, but they certainly have a fantastic chance of getting that job done. What hurts Georgia in this case is that they’re losing a ton of potential betting revenue with nothing legalized right now. The Braves betting would be through the roof – the same could be said for MLB as a whole. However, no legal bets mean no revenue and more illegal activity.

Despite the anger for baseball fans right now that they can’t bet on Atlanta in Georgia, the latest news out of the state about 2024 most certainly has those same people feeling good about the future. Legal sports betting has been in the works for Georgia for years now, but nothing has been approved just yet. The state has been close, but you never know, 2024 could finally be the year where everything comes together.

Georgia’s NCAA Championship odds will always be a topic of conversation

In terms of the college game, Georgia’s NCAA Championship odds will always be a topic of conversation. That’s because head coach Kirby Smart continues to build something special in Athens, as this team has won back-to-back titles. Last year, Georgia took down Ohio State in the College Football Playoff Semifinal and then they had no issues in the final going up against Texas Christian University.

Looking ahead to this season, Georgia is going to be a top contender to win it all once again, but teams like Alabama, USC, Clemson and others will look to take them down. Don’t forget about Ohio State and Michigan here either, as both Big Ten schools will be doing everything in their power to not only make the CFP, but also go on a push to try and bring home the natty too. Both Big Ten powerhouses are always fun to watch.

So, what does this mean for people in Georgia? It’s disappointing that they won’t be able to bet on the action this fall, but again, that could change in a big way in 2024. The good thing here is that Georgia is always going to be in the hunt in the SEC and on a national level too. Because of that, as soon as things are legalized, then you know an incredible amount of NCAA bets will be rolling in on the program.
