Last year, Fan Zhengyi took home the title with a 10-9 win over the legendary Ronnie O’Sullivan. The win was the first victory in a ranking tournament in the career of the 21-year-old Zhengyi, who turned pro at 17 during the 2018-19 tour. O’Sullivan was a six-time world champion at that time. The 46-year-old O’Sullivan became a seven-time world champion earlier this year. Both men are in the pool of players for the 2022 European Masters.

|To Win 2022 Snooker European Masters|
If there’s a snooker tournament and Ronnie O’Sullivan is playing in it, odds are good he is going to be the favorite to win. That is the case for the 2022 European Masters.
O’Sullivan did not have a great start to his 2022-23 season. He was eliminated in the second round of the Championship League tournament in late July. Last year’s runner-up in the European Masters, O’Sullivan has not had a win in this tournament since the 2002-03 season. He was runner-up in 2016-17 to Judd Trump.
Judd Trump was eliminated in the second round of last year’s European Masters. However, he did finish the year as runner-up in the 2022 World Championship to Ronnie O’Sullivan.
Like O’Sullivan, Trump had a rough start to the 2022-23 season as he was eliminated in the opening round of the Champion’s League. The 32-year-old had back-to-back wins in the European Masters in 2016 and 2017, but he has not made it past the semifinal round since 2020.
The 39-year-old Mark Selby is a four-time World Champion. His last title came in 2021 when he topped Shaun Murphy in the final. Like O’Sullivan and Trump, Selby had a poor start to his 2022-23 season as he did not make it out of the first round of the Championship League tournament.
Selby has one win in his career at the European Masters and that came in 2020 when he defeated Martin Gould in the final.
If you’re looking for the player who might have momentum heading into the 2022 European Masters, look no further than Luca Brecel. The 27-year-old player from Belgium won the 2022 Championship League Tournament after failing to move beyond the first round in his two previous attempts. Brecel turned pro in 2011 and since then he has only won two other titles in ranking tournaments.
Brecel has been playing in the European Maters since 2016 and his best finishes are three exists in the third round.
With the 2022-23 snooker season being so young, it’s hard to get a feel as to who is playing well and who is lagging. With that, the safe beat seems to be Ronnie O’Sullivan.
Pick: Ronnie O’Sullivan to win the 2022 Snooker European Masters.
