Argentina has been eliminated from the quarterfinals over the last two World Cups; since 1990 when they reached the final, they haven’t been in the semis, and that’s a lot to say considering they are one of the top teams on every tournament.

“Just a few minutes before the end there was this pass from the midfield to Messi and he was in a very advantageous position and a player like him getting the ball in an advantageous position can cause a lot of harm,” coach Alejandro Sabella said about beating Switzerland. “And there you go, he found Di Maria.”

Belgium hasn’t been in a semifinal since 1986; this is their golden generation and they intent to ride it to end.

‘We are not favorites against Argentina but there is a lack of balance in their team,” Belgium coach Marc Wilmots said. ‘We will play well against a stronger opponent.’

Argentina and Belgium met on a World Cup semifinal back in 1986 as the Argentineans won 2-0 and then won the final.  In 1982, Belgium beat team 1-0, which means the series is even at one apiece.

The World Cup odds have Argentina +122 and Belgium +280, according to the money line; the draw was rated at +235.
