Best Bets to miss the postseason
Los Angeles Clippers (+215). They put up a good fight against the Phoenix Suns in the NBA Western Conference Finals without Kawhi Leonard. But with their superstar forward expected to miss most if not all of the 2021-22 season, can Paul George be expected to carry their mediocre roster over the course of a full year.
The 31-year-old has a rich injury history himself and if he goes down even for a month, the Clippers would be hard pressed to grab a playoff spot in the loaded West.

Indiana Pacers (+145). Larry Bird brought in former Mavericks head coach Rick Carlisle on a four-year, $29 million deal. Other than this possible coaching upgrade, however, there’s not much reason to get excited about a Pacers team that made no significant offseason additions after finishing four games under-.500 last year.
Best Bets to make playoffs
Charlotte Hornets (+180). Injuries stung the Hornets last year, causing them to plummet from fourth to 10th in the Eastern Conference standings. But they had a good thing going with free-agent addition Gordon Hayward, No. 3 overall pick LaMelo Ball and guard Terry Rozier.
While this summer’s additions of Kelly Oubre, Ish Smith, Wes Iwundu and Mason Plumlee certainly won’t light the world on fire, Charlotte will make the playoffs with growth from LaMelo and improved injury luck.

Memphis Grizzlies (+100). The loss of Jonas Valanciunas will hurt, but Steven Adams should fill in admirably. Jaren Jackson Jr. is poised to play a full season after missing most of last year and the team’s other young cornerstone, Ja Morant Jr., should continue to transcend toward superstardom in his third season.
While it won’t be easy in a loaded Western Conference, the Grizz could benefit from a Paul George injury (as described above) or the Portland Trailblazers taking a step back under new head coach Jason Kidd and disgruntled superstar Damian Lillard.
