The Sean Payton era is off to a rocky start in Denver after his Broncos blew a 18-point first half lead against the Commanders to fall to 0-2. They’ll now head on the road to face a 2-0 Dolphins club that looks like the class of the AFC East after taking down the Patriots 24-17 on Sunday Night Football.

Can Denver stop Miami?
Denver allowed 35 points to Washington in week 2. Sam Howell passed for 299 yards and two touchdowns while Brian Robinson racked up 87 yards with two scores. Needless to say, Vance Joseph’s defense will have to be much better against a Dolphins team that can beat clubs through the air or on the ground.
One week after Tua Tagovailoa passed for 466 yards, Raheem Mostert rushed for 121 yards and 2 TDs in a 24-17 victory over the Patriots. Tagovailoa was relatively quiet with a 249 yards-TD-INT stat line on Sunday night, but Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle will have much more room to operate in week 3.

Wilson’s up and down day
Russell Wilson’s final numbers (308 passing yards, 3 TDs, INT) suggest he’s rediscovered his Hall of Fame form under Sean Payton. However, those stats were buoyed by an unlikely Hail Mary completion to Brandon Johnson in the final seconds. Wilson ultimately couldn’t score the two-point conversion to tie the game and was only 2-for-4 in the red zone on the afternoon.
Denver’s swiss cheese offensive line permitted seven sacks on Sunday. Expect Vic Fangio to bring some heat after his Dolphins D sacked Mac Jones four times on Sunday night. Miami also forced two turnovers, and only allowed 88 rushing yards to New England.
Miami vs Denver
Miami is a 7-point favorite at Hard Rock Stadium and the over/under is set at 46 points. Miami was 6-2 at home in Mike McDaniel’s first season on the sideline while Denver was a miserable 1-8 on the road in 2022. Sean Payton came into the Mile High City with all kinds of bravado, but it looks like the same old Broncos after two weeks.
Payton’s biggest mistake might have been letting go of talented defensive coordinator Ejiro Evero. Under new DC Vance Joseph, Denver struggled to contain Washington throughout the second half.

Best Bet
After two games in elevated conditions, Denver’s players will be sweltering under the hot Miami sun in week 3. We’ll take Tua and the Dolphins to cover the -7 with the OVER on 46 points.
