Steelers to sneak by Raiders in a Sunday night slugfest

  • Las Vegas is a 1-point home favorite over Pittsburgh in Week 3 of the NFL season
  • The Steelers scored two defensive touchdowns in a 26-22 win over Cleveland on Monday night
  • Sunday Night Football on NBC kicks off from Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, NV at 8:20pm ET

Almost as if they were on a mission to exact justice for scores of wronged women, the Steelers bullied Deshaun Watson and the Browns on Monday Night Football. Pittsburgh’s defense racked up six sacks, four takeaways and two touchdowns in a 26-22 victory over their AFC North rivals.

Mike Tomlin’s club now heads to another place where a considerable amount of sin has been committed -Las Vegas – for a matchup with the Raiders. Before we check the odds on the Sunday night matchup, here’s where you can find the best Super Bowl betting tips and the top betting sites for NFL football in 2023.

Pittsburgh’s D saves the day

T.J. Watt became the Steelers’ all-time sack leader (81.5) in Monday’s win over the Browns, but it was Alex Highsmith who stole the show. The 26-year-old linebacker intercepted Deshaun Watson in the game’s first series and ran into the end zone to put his club ahead. Then, while trailing in the fourth quarter, he knocked the ball out of Watson’s hands, setting Watt up for the triumphant scoop and score.

With Watt and Hightower, Pittsburgh may have the most feared pass rushing duo in the league. Watch out this week, Jimmy Garoppolo!

Raiders get blown out

Las Vegas had their doors blown off in Buffalo on Sunday. Jimmy Garoppolo tossed two interceptions in the 38-10 loss and Josh Jacobs ran for minus-2 yards on nine carries. That’s the fewest rushing yards in a single game by a reigning rushing leader since 1950.

After holding the Broncos to 16 points in a week 1 win, the Raiders were gashed on the ground by the Bills for 183 yards. They also allowed Josh Allen to pass for 274 yards and three touchdowns.

Las Vegas vs Pittsburgh

Las Vegas is a 1-point home favorite over Pittsburgh and the over-under is set at 44 points. The Raiders were a respectable 4-4 at Allegiant Stadium in 2022 – which isn’t too bad considering they were 6-11 in Josh McDaniel’s first season on the sidelines.

Sunday night’s contest will be Vegas’ home opener, as well as the Steelers’ first road game. Mike Tomlin’s club was 5-4 on the road last year.

Keys to victory

Pass protection will be paramount if Garoppolo is to find Davante Adams and Jacobi Meyers, who should return from a concussion, and the Raiders have yet to allow a sack this year. After registering just 46 yards on 28 carries (1.64 ypc), Josh Jacobs will have more room to operate in week 3. The Steelers D allowed 198 rushing yards to Cleveland one week after permitting 188 to San Francisco.

At the same time, Kenny Pickett might be able to get back on track after facing two of the NFL’s toughest defenses, San Francisco and Cleveland, over the past two weeks.

Best Bets

Mike Tomlin always has his team ready to play in primetime. Take the Steelers money line at -108. While this one shouldn’t be as low scoring as Pittsburgh’s 13-10 win over Vegas on Christmas Eve last year, we also like the UNDER 44 points.
