Delaware Online Sports Betting May Not Arrive in Time for Football Season

The uncertainty for Delaware sports betting changes has been tough to stay on top of. For a while now, people have been begging for online sports betting options to arrive. Legal sports wagers have been allowed since 2018, but as things stand, people are only allowed to make their wagers at three authorized spots. However, the feeling has been that changes indeed could be on the way. However, Delaware online sports betting may not arrive in time for football season.

Seriously? Just recently, it was reported that the online betting push could be delayed by a couple of months. However, there’s now a big-time concern that we may not see online wagers on the table until 2024. If that were to be the case, then it would most certainly be the worst-case scenario not only for fans out there, but also the lawmakers and officials who have been trying to make this happen.

Delaware is one of the smallest states in the USA and they don’t typically post big betting numbers on a monthly basis. The hope is that the figures will be able to improve down the road, as online betting will 100 percent improve things in the future once it arrives. With that said, it’s totally up in the air when sports betting will be available for people through the online sportsbooks. No set date being announced only has people nervous about this.

Only time will tell if some positive news can arrive this summer, but people aren’t feeling overly optimistic about things. The longer things are delayed, the more money Delaware will be losing from a revenue standpoint. In the coming weeks, some news may arrive, as people are ready to get positive updates. However, if we don’t see online wagers approved in the near future, then the frustration is only going to grow.

No online betting for the NFL would be terrible for Delaware

It goes without saying, but no online betting for the NFL would be terrible for Delaware. This is what people are hoping for, as things getting launched by late August is the dream for local citizens. Although Delaware doesn’t have a pro team, that doesn’t mean that people across the state don’t pay a ton of attention to the league from the moment things get started for the Week 1 action.

All over Delaware, people pay close attention to the NFC East squads: the Giants, Eagles, Commanders and Cowboys. More specifically, though, the Giants, Eagles and Commanders are the three teams with the most fans, as they’re not too far away from Delaware’s state lines. With the Eagles, Philadelphia is quite close to Delaware, which results in plenty of people crossing state lines to watch their games on a consistent basis.

The Eagles hold strong NFL betting odds to not only win the NFC East, but to go on a deep postseason run as well. Jalen Hurts inked his mega-deal this offseason, which has people dreaming of the Eagles getting back to the Super Bowl. Philly holds strong Super Bowl betting odds entering the new season and we expect them to live up to the hype. However, plenty of other teams won’t make it easy on them.

In the NFC alone, the Cowboys, Vikings, Lions and others figure to make a ton of noise. The Giants are another team to watch, as the additions of Bobby Okereke, Darren Waller and Parris Campbell have people quite fired up about their potential. All in all, this will be an incredible season for the NFL and while people in Delaware will be able to make in-person bets on the action, no legal online wagers would be a total nightmare. We can only hope that’s not the case in 2023.

When will a legal online betting announcement be made?

With all of the uncertainty that is surrounding this current project, when will a legal online betting announcement be made? That’s what everyone is waiting for, but it’s completely up in the air when that day will come. What’s helping things in this case is that local politicians are pushing for online betting. They know how important it will be to get the numbers higher than they currently are.

In some disappointing news, the June betting numbers were the lowest of the year thus far. That’s understandable, as no NFL or NBA action is always going to result in a bit of a dip. While MLB betting can be strong at times, the state can’t solely rely on baseball to help their sports betting numbers to be at a respectable level.

Looking ahead to the coming months, and the end of the year, the only thing that will really help Delaware reach the next level with its betting is if online wagers are allowed. There’s plenty of time for things to get finalized before Week 1 of the NFL season, but the clock is surely ticking. This is something that people are going to be following closely. We’ll have to wait and see how this all plays out.
