Big Shark favored

Big Shark (+250), the early favorite to win the 2024 Razzie Award, is about a blood-thirsty 35-foot-long shark that’s turned loose on the streets of Louisiana. It’s Tommy Wiseau’s long-awaited followup to The Room, which came out in 2003 and is regarded as one of the premier cult films of the century.

While Wiseau’s latest was predictably panned after its April debut, it’s a terrible bet to claim a Golden Raspberry. The whole reason people watched The Room and went to cinemas for Big Shark was to see a bad movie – so there’s little fun in giving it an award for being bad. After all, the Razzies were created to make fun of self-important celebrities.

80 For Brady next on the list

80 for Brady (+300) is the true story of four elderly besties who travel to the Super Bowl to see their hero Tom Brady. Given that it has an 89% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, many would argue it’s actually a good movie.

Starring film legends Jane Fonda, Lily Tomlin, Rita Moreno and Sally Field, 80 for Brady will not take home the Razzie.

Best Bet

Our official advice is to sit this bet out for now as the Razzie award winners won’t be announced for another six months minimum. However, Hypnotic (+650) is the best speculative wager on the board for one simple reason. It stars Ben Affleck… who people love to hate on despite his strong directorial resume.

Jonah Hill’s rough year continues

Jonah Hill (+250) is the chalk pick for his performance in the Netflix rom-com You People. Hated by critics and the general public alike, the movie has a 40% tomatometer and 35% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes.

With many people viewing the portly funnyman as a controlling boyfriend after his ex-girlfriend leaked his texts, Jonah Hill is an easy target for the Razzies.

Best Bet

Adam Driver (+400), Ben Affleck (+400), Chris Evans (+400) and Adam Sandler (+450) are closely bunched on the board. Driver’s sci-fi flick 65  has a matching 65% audience score and everyone expects Sandler to act poorly at this point.

Captain America’s action-romance Ghosted has a lower tomatometer (26%) and audience score (56%) than Affleck’s movie, so we’ll predict Chris Evans to take home the 2024 Razzie for Worst Actor.
