Airing on Netflix for the first time, the Screen Actors Guild Awards are set to go mainstream in 2024. Unlike the Oscars or Golden Globes, these awards are only voted on by actors themselves.

Cillian Murphy vs Paul Giamatti
Cillian Murphy (-150) and Paul Giamatti (+150) both won Golden Globes in the drama and comedy categories, respectively. While The Holdovers lead topped the Irishman at the Critics’ Choice Awards, the mass popularity of Oppenheimer could help Murphy to SAG glory.
With over 160,000 members, SAG-AFTRA is easily the largest voting body in awards season. In the past, that’s often led to wins for actors in the more-watched films. Given that Oppenheimer has grossed almost $1 billion at the worldwide box office, the smart money is on Murphy (-150).

Robert Downey Jr. (-400) looks like a lock in the supporting actor category after topping Ryan Gosling (+300) at both the Critics Choice Awards and the Golden Globes. With nearly $1.5 billion in international box office receipts, Barbie is a more popular film than Oppenheimer. But, comedic performances are rarely if ever honored at major award shows, so “Ken” is fighting a losing battle here.

Emma Stone to win another?
Lily Gladstone (-240) is the chalk pick in the Best Actress category despite appearing in less than a third of the 3.5-hour Killers of the Flower Moon. While Gladstone is very much in a supporting role, Emma Stone (+125) takes major risks throughout Poor Things.
With Yorgos Lanthimos’ dark comedy surging at the box office, Stone is well positioned to become the fourth lead actress to win the SAG award twice, joining Frances McDormand, Renée Zellweger and Viola Davis.
