The Group 1 Prince of Wales, the richest race of the Royal Ascot meeting, is coming up Wednesday, June 15. With one of the classiest fields, you will see all year long, it is one of the most important horse race betting events of the year! With a £1 million purse and a berth in the Breeders’ Cup Turf at stake, it is the highlight of the Royal Ascot meeting.
A field of five has entered to go about ten furlongs in the Prince of Wales’s. Lord North, who won the race in 2020, will try to become only the fourth horse to win this race twice. However, the road will not be easy. Bay Bridge is likely to be a hot favorite off of a five-win streak, and Shahryar hopes to continue an excellent streak for Japanese horses in major international meetings.

Now that you know how to find the best places to play the race, it is time to get to know the best horses in the 2022 Prince of Wales.
Prince of Wales’s Contenders
Bay Bridge is the hot favorite in the Prince of Wales, as he rides a five-win streak into the race and looks well suited to make it six. He still has to answer the question of class: he has not tried past Grade 3 company. However, he did win the Gerard last out as impressively as expected. And, he has shown the ability to be forward, which is key in a race with so little early speed.
However, the experience is the question for Bay Bridge. Shahryar brings that experience. He broke through at the G1 level in the Japanese Derby last year, and won again at the top level in the Sheema Classic March 26. That also proved he could travel internationally. Furthermore, the good-to-firm going on race day should suit his preferences beautifully.
Prince of Wales’s Price Horses
The best chance for one of the long shots to shine in the Prince of Wales would be to try to take the lead and make the running for as long as possible since this is a five-horse field with no one who typically makes the top in their races.
At least Lord North tried to be forward last time out. He was run down in that race, in the Tattersalls Gold Cup at the Curragh, but was beaten less than two lengths for all of it. Good ground suits him well, and he is already a winner of this race (over good ground, no less) two years ago.
This makes Lord North the most interesting of the longer shots in this short but high-quality field. State of Rest can move forward in his second start off the layoff, and the good and even possibly good-to-firm ground should be very good for him. However, his more natural running style is well off of the pace. Meaning he may have too much to do late.
French-based Grand Glory has kept good company, with form lines through quality horses like Audarya and Rougir. However, that better form has come over rain-affected going, and her lack of early speed may prevent him from getting the right trip in this.
