Now that you have seen the field for the 2021 Kentucky Downs Turf Sprint, let’s get to know the top contenders in the race. With an overflow field, the prices should be excellent, so let’s get to know them!

Kentucky Downs Turf Sprint Handicapping

#9 Got Stormy surprised many by winning her second edition of the Fourstardave (G2) on August 14. Though she loves a mile at Saratoga, she also loves a sprint at Kentucky Downs. She won the Ladies Sprint (G3) at Kentucky Downs last year, and though that was over soft going, she has a lot of form over better ground as well. In her current form, with strong turf rider Tyler Gaffalione, Got Stormy looks strong.

#12 Imprimis has significant back class, and comes second off the layoff. He may go off a bit of a price between the outside gate and the questions about whether he is what he was in the past. But, his two-back second in the Shakertown (G2) was a stellar effort after he broke through the gate before the race. Furthermore, Imprimis is already a winner at Kentucky Downs, as he won this race last year.

#7 Casa Creed, like Get Stormy, comes out of the Fourstardave. He ran a credible third that day, and should love the cutback from a mile back to six furlongs. He won the Jaipur (G1) at this distance two back. Casa Creed has to prove that he can handle Kentucky Downs, as he has yet to try the course. But, as a course who can carry his form many different places, he can’t be ignored completely.

Kentucky Downs Turf Sprint Longshots

The most intriguing horse in this race is one of the longshots: #5 Born Great. At 15/1 on the morning line, this Brendan Walsh trainee is taking a shot against opponents like this, as the prep race he won at Ellis was not against as tough a field.

However, Born Great returns to a racecourse where he won twice over the course of a week last year. His two races at Kentucky Downs proved that he has good tactical versatility and a strong ability to handle the undulating course, things that many of his class-proven foes haven’t shown. With his best speed figures fitting right in with this kind of a group, he is an excellent win bet.

#1 Diamond Oops also deserves a long look, particularly for exotics. He is a horse who can do it all. He has shined on both dirt and turf, going one turn or two. Though he has not ever raced at Kentucky Downs before, he travels well to different racetracks, and he gets well-proven Kentucky Downs jockey Florent Geroux in the saddle. Geroux has a strong rapport with Diamond Oops already, and should be able to get another good effort from him this time.
