Whenever the New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox face off, people can’t wait to see what will end up happening between the two teams. This is easily one of the best rivalries in Major League Baseball, with the two sides ready to meet once again this week at Fenway Park. This should be a fantastic four-game set and the Yankees are hoping to upset the Red Sox in Thursday’s series finale. Will they be able to get the job done?
Thus far this campaign, things have not gone according to plan for the Bronx Bombers, as they’re on the outside looking in for the postseason. Barring a late charge, the Yankees will miss the playoffs for the first time in a while. However, they can keep hope alive with a strong showing against Boston this week. The Red Sox of course won’t make things easy on them, as they’re hoping to try and reach the playoffs too.

Both of these lineups are strong, with plenty of All-Star caliber players being featured. With the Yankees, Aaron Judge is the headline here, as he’s the reigning AL MVP. Judge battled injuries early on in the campaign, but he’s back to full strength ready to make noise in Boston. You just know he would love nothing more than to hit a dinger or two this series and quiet people down at Fenway.
According to the best-rated sportsbooks, which includes the reliable Bovada review, the Yankees are the underdogs with their +125 MLB betting odds. With Boston being the home team, they’ve been set at -115. This should be a fun contest and one that could go either way. While it’s tough to pick against the Red Sox when they’re playing at Fenway Park, we’re rocking with the Yankees to come away with a victory.

The under should hit between the Yankees and Red Sox
As great as the offenses are for both of these teams, we think that the under should hit between the Yankees and Red Sox when they face off on Thursday. Boston is yet to reveal who they’ll be starting, but the Yankees will be giving the ball to righty Tanner Michael King. King is 4-5 on the year, but his record doesn’t tell the whole story. He has an impressive 2.82 ERA, which shows he knows what it takes to get the job done.
Offensively for the Yankees, one of the most exciting pieces of their lineup this month has been youngster Jasson Dominguez. However, it was just announced that the lefty has suffered a torn UCL and he’ll undergo surgery soon. This is a serious injury and one that no one wanted to see happen to Dominguez. He’ll be out for the rest of the season and he’ll start his rehab soon to try and get ready for the next campaign.
The Yankees have had a lot of lows, but Jasson Dominguez tearing his UCL has to be the worst thing to happen in 2023.

“Crushed for him,” Yankees manager Aaron Boone told reporters on Sunday after learning of the serious injury for his young playmaker. “At the same time, he’s a young man and these things resolve themselves, so it’s a moment in time in the grand scheme of things in what we feel like has a chance to be a long, excellent career. So, it’s about taking care of it now.”
Dominguez missing this series is a huge blow for the Yankees. With that said, the over/under for Thursday’s game has been set at seven runs, with -110 MLB betting odds for both. The Yankees without Dominguez means they may struggle to score runs via the middle of their lineup. With King’s low ERA, it could be a long night for the Boston hitters. With all of that said, we’re going with the under here. Both these teams have a ton of potential to score runs here, but we just don’t see it happening on Thursday.
Both the Yankees and Red Sox could miss the playoffs
In what would be a true shocker, both the Yankees and Red Sox could miss the playoffs. As things stand, the Rays, Blue Jays and Mariners hold the three Wild Card positions in the American League. Boston is six games back of Seattle for that final spot, while the Yankees are eight games back. With the regular season ending in a few weeks, both these teams need a miracle to try and sneak in – things aren’t looking likely for them, which is a stunner for sure.
Boston has the better chance being only six games back, but if they stumble at all against the Yankees, then they could kiss their dreams of postseason baseball goodbye. In essence, the Red Sox would need to record a four-game sweep of New York to give themselves a legit chance to get the job done. They’d also need the other teams ahead of them to lose plenty of contests too. As badly as Boston fans are hoping the Red Sox can pull things off, it’s probably not going to happen.
