They may not be an NBA season this year, but that doesn’t mean we can’t look at the new batch of NBA Draftees coming into the league – whenever it happens.
Surprisingly, #1 overall draft pick Kyrie Irving isn’t in the top spot according oddsmakers, that title currently stands with Arizona small forward, and #2 overall pick by the Timberwolves Derrick Williams.
It all accounts to playing time for Irving, and the fact he is a freshman coming into the NBA.
Williams, though only a sophomore, is slated to contribute more out of the gates in Minnesota.
Interesting picks are the Turkish phenom from Turkey, Enes Kanter, who looks to be a great fit on a decent Utah squad who got this pick for trading Deron Williams to New Jersey, and could be a great bet to surprise this season.
Jimmer Fredette is also near the top of the odds pile, posting a +500 to come away with rookie of the year honors as he laces up for the Bucks. My thoughts are that his hype may have drawn this line to where it currently sits.
A great long term bet could also be Ricky Rubio, who spent last season in Spain after being selected 5th overall last year. This will be a rookie that has been playing with the men for a while now, and he could have an immediate impact in Minny.
Here is a round-up of the NBA Rookie of the Year Odds for 2011/2012:
