Luka Doncic rolled into the NBA All-Star break with per-game marks of 28.6 points, 8.4 rebounds, and 9.0 assists, but oddsmakers still view the Slovenian superstar as a 10-to-1 longshot to average a triple-double over the course of the season.

Luka’s on a historic pace
Luka Doncic has upped his efficiency across the board this season, averaging career highs in shooting percentage (47.5) and from beyond the arc (35.1). And with his Mavericks suddenly on a roll with 10 wins in their past 13 games, he’s even being described as a “stealth MVP candidate” by The Ringer’s Bill Simmons.
But will the 22-year-old actually be able to add the accomplishment “Averaged a Triple-Double in the 2020-21 Season” to his hilarious new LinkedIn profile?

Doncic is on a historic pace, producing a triple-double every 5.2 games. That’s better than the career averages of Oscar Robertson (5.7) and Russell Westbrook (5.8) and those are the only two men ever to average a Trip-Dub over the course of a full season.
But while Luka will likely become the all-time leader in triple-doubles before he hangs up his Air Jordan’s, he’s unlikely to accomplish the feat this season.
Can Doncic haul in more boards?
Last year, Luka put up per-game marks of 28.8 points, 9.4 rebounds, and 8.8 assists – which means he’s averaging slightly more assists (0.2) through 32 games this year and one fewer rebound.
While the 6-foot-7 star scored two more points per game in February (30.3) than he did in March (28.3), he’s trending down in the other two categories, averaging 7.1 boards and 8.3 assists last month compared to 10.1 rebounds and 10.3 helpers in January.
