Delaware Betting Handle Hit Lowest Point in 2 Years

While we’ve seen sports wagering skyrocket across the country, that doesn’t mean that all news has been good. Just take a look at Delaware sports betting and how things have gone. Per a report, the Delaware betting handle hit lowest point in 2 years, which was rough to see for so many different people involved. Now, things moving forward are hopeful to get better, but we’ll have to wait and see.

According to a report, only $3.5 million was bet in Delaware for June. This was, astonishingly, a 41 percent drop from the numbers from June of 2021. And unfortunately, this is the lowest amount since August of 2020. In total, only 112,000 bets were made, which was the lowest amount for the year. What could have led to this? Well, it’s important to keep in mind that it’s the summer.

While there are plenty of baseball fans in the state who no question are going to consistently check the MLB odds to place bets on teams in that part of the USA, the fact that Delaware doesn’t have a pro team is going to drop the interest there from a betting perspective. With that said, the fact that the NBA season ended too wasn’t great.

If anything, June and July are always going to be considered down months across the board for many states when it comes to betting. The fact that Delaware had such a big-time struggle really isn’t that surprising. However, as we said above, the expectation is that things are going to change starting in August, especially with NFL training camps starting soon.

The NFL season will be massive for Delaware

In terms of overall betting, the NFL season will be massive for Delaware. As you’ve probably read before, people in Delaware absolutely love the National Football League and despite there being no pro team, there’s plenty of fandoms for the teams not too far away. This of course includes the Washington Commanders, Philadelphia Eagles and NY Giants.

All of these teams are in the NFC East, which obviously means that people hate on the Dallas Cowboys, the other team in the division. With the Philadelphia Eagles, this team feels like they could surprise a ton of people and make a run for the division title. Dallas of course will have something to say about that, as Dak Prescott and Co. want to get back to the playoffs.

Meanwhile for the NY Giants, this team is under the direction of first-year head coach Brian Daboll. On top of that, Mike Kafka has been hired as offensive coordinator, while Wink Martinale is the new defensive coordinator in town. With Daniel Jones and Saquon Barkley entering contract years, the pressure will be on the two of them to deliver. Kenny Golladay and Sterling Shepard are in need of big years too.

Last but not least, Washington has brought in Carson Wentz to be the new starting quarterback of the team. The former first-round pick didn’t live up to the hype with the Eagles, while things didn’t go much better for him while he was with Indianapolis. Now, Wentz is hoping a fresh start will be great for him and people all over Delaware will be laying down money on them to make some noise.

Delaware is also facing competition from nearby states

Another thing to remember here is that Delaware is also facing competition from nearby states. More specifically, the fact that New York has moved forward with sports betting is going to have an impact on Delaware moving forward. Don’t forget that New Jersey is also a big-time state when it comes to the different kinds of betting.

Previously, Delaware had quite the advantage, as New York was still in limbo with things. Because of this, people would often plan their vacations to Delaware and also take advantage of the sports betting laws. It was great for local businesses as well, as they saw an influx of people make their way over. Things have changed, though, with NY making things better for everyone in their state. This isn’t that big of a surprise.

In Manhattan, people are always ready to bet on the Yankees and Knicks. Over in Brooklyn, people love the Nets and despite the team struggling to live up to the hype of the NBA Finals odds, there’s still plenty of superstars on the roster. It’s been great to see and now people have the chance to make all kinds of bets on them as well.

This obviously is a bit of a bummer for Delaware as a whole, as it cuts into their betting options. They loved when people would make their way over from New York to make some wagers. However, that’s no longer going to be a top priority for them. At the end of the day, Delaware needs to see a spike in the coming months with its bets, because these latest stats are disheartening. Only time will tell if that happens or not.
