When it comes to the success of Delaware sports betting, people have been thrilled with things from the start, but not everything is always going to be through the moon for the state. As we’ve seen across the USA, there are always going to be highs and lows when it comes to revenue. Well, the official numbers from last year are starting to trickle in across the board, and Delaware sports betting saw a big drop in 2022.
This isn’t what the officials were hoping to see. According to a report, Delaware posted lower numbers, as things dropped $7.3 million from the previous year. The fact that more than $7 million of a drop was recorded is something that has people a bit worried about what’s going on with the overall numbers. This also was expected.
Surrounding states have brought in legal sports betting, including New York, Maryland and others. With New York, this has prevented a lot of people from traveling to Delaware to place their bets. This has been rough to see, especially with Maryland also posting legal wagers for people to take advantage of in November. Both New York and Maryland adding betting to the list was expected to have a rough impact for Delaware.
Moving forward, Delaware is going to have to find ways to keep things moving in the right direction for legal betting. As things stand, only three locations have been authorized to let sports bets go down. Right now, people are checking NFL betting odds and laying down their money, but with only three spots in the state allowing betting, the options sure are limited. Will that end up changing down the road?
People in Delaware are hoping for online sports betting
As has been the case for a while, people in Delaware are hoping for online sports betting to be on the plate sooner than later. This has been an ongoing issue for the state. Across the globe, we are seeing huge online betting numbers. Yet for people in Delaware, as we mentioned above, people can only place their bets at three spots. This has left people with their hands tied a bit in terms of betting.
The beauty of online betting is that people would be able to make their wagers from anywhere, even the comfort of their own home. This is what everyone has been hoping could arrive in the state, which would surely increase the overall sports betting numbers for Delaware too. Until something changes there, though, then it really feels like the potential of sports betting in Delaware won’t reach its highest level.

Should Delaware officials decide to try and push through with legal betting, then there will certainly be big-time sportsbooks who will be lining up to get deals done with the state. We’ve seen how quickly things have been able to move with states that aren’t too far from Delaware. This is something that people need to keep in mind moving forward. The numbers could be massive for Delaware, especially during the NFL and MLB seasons.
With football, right now would be the time for Super Bowl betting to be through the roof. The numbers will still be high, but they could be so much better if online options were there. As for baseball, the Philadelphia Phillies are so dang popular in the state, even though the team is in Pennsylvania. This summer, baseball betting is of course going to be high in Delaware, but again, legal wagers would increase things overall.
Where can Delaware sports betting wagers be made?
With no online betting being available, people often ask themselves where can Delaware sports betting wagers be made? Right now if you want to make a bet in Delaware, you can only do so at Delaware Park, Bally’s Dover and Harrington Raceway. All three of these race tracks, which also have casinos, have become popular locations for people to go and check odds and lay down their sports bets.
Again, though, the fact that people in Delaware can only go to three spots is disappointing. There are currently no plans to move forward with online options, which needs to change soon. If things were on the table now, it would be huge for the NFL postseason. As most of you know by now, football betting is king in the USA and you’re always going to see a lot of action on individual games and parlays too. With the playoffs here and people excited about big games, it’s leading to huge wagers.
People are on standby waiting to see if any legal online moves will be made. There are people using off-shore accounts for their online bets, but that’s something the state wants to try and eliminate. In order for that to happen, then legal online options need to come forward. We’ll see if lawmakers and officials end up getting something done before the year ends. Delaware must make this happen as soon as possible.
