Scottie Scheffler favored to repeat at The Players Championship 2024

  • Scottie Scheffler (+550) is a heavy favorite to win the 50th edition of THE PLAYERS ChampionshipΒ
  • Rory Thomas (+1600) and Justin Thomas (+2500) are just two of the past winners back at the eventΒ
  • Golf’s unofficial fifth major tees off from TPC at Sawgrass in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida on Thursday, March 14, 2024

While many of golf’s biggest names are on the LIV Tour, The Players Championship still has a stacked field highlighted by world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler. Thanks to a red-hot putting stroke, the reigning champion cruised to a five-shot win at last week’s Arnold Palmer Invitational.

Will Scheffler successfully defend his title at TPC at Sawgrass?Β Before we look at the odds, check out the top betting sites for Golf in 2024 and get ready for upcoming tournaments with Valero Texas Open Betting Odds.

Scheffler opens as heavy favorite

Scottie Scheffler (+550) picked up his first PGA Tour victory in 51 weeks at the Arnold Palmer Invitational. His first triumph since his win at the Stadium Course in 2023. The defending champion comes into TPC at Sawgrass with a sizzling hot putter – something he almost never has.

The 27-year-old American placed top 10 in four events in 2024. And since the 2023 Players, he’s finished outside the top 10 only four times in 19 tournaments. He accomplished all this despite ranking 162nd on the PGA Tour in putting. However, last week at Bay Hill course in Florida, he drained all 16 putts from inside 10 feet for a commanding five-shot triumph.

Other huge names

While Rory McIlroy (+1600) captured this event in 2019, the 34-year-old has missed the cut in six of 13 appearances at the Players Championship, including one year ago. The four-time major champion was uncompetitive at Bay Hill last week, bookending the tournament with rounds of 73 and 76.

Justin Thomas (+2500) won at TPC Sawgrass in 2021 – one of his 15 tour titles. While Thomas’ title slump extends back the 2022 PGA Championship, the American has been playing better golf in 2024.

Four longshots to consider

Wagering on golf is all about finding fun longshots to bet on.Β Sahith Theegala (+6000) tied for sixth at the Arnold Palmer. The 26-year-old has 16 top-tens in 83 career events played with one win (2023 Fortinet Championship) and three runner-up finishes. Just like Theegala, who buried a 24-foot birdie at Bay Hill,Β Tom Hoge (+6500) drained a 22-foot birdie putt last weekend. The American also has one career win on tour with two runner-ups.

Erik Van Rooyen (+11000) placed a respectable 13th in his last appearance at TPC Sawgrass in 2022. He’s registered three top-ten finishes in his last ten events.Β Brian Harman (+12500) has a top-five finish and two top-ten placements in his last six trips to The Players. He grabbed 12th at the Arnold Palmer Invitational.

Best darkhorse?

Wyndham Clark (+3500) earned a cool $2.2 million for a second-place finish at the Arnold Palmer Invitational. The reigning U.S. Open champion irked golf fans when he threw a tantrum at Bay Hill and damaged the fairway. However, we like the American to recapture their hearts by picking up his fourth career tour win at The Players Championship.
