FedEx St. Jude Betting Picks – Should Scottie Scheffler Be The Favorite?
Alright, this week’s FedEx St. Jude Betting Picks from Memphis is on a 7,244 yard course (Par-70) that requires a steady putting hand and good shotmaking as birdies are there but not in abundance. Now, the next question is this. Should Scottie Scheffler even be a favorite here? With the best of the best field here, Scheffler remains far from a lock. His closest brush to victory since The Players Championship in March was a tied for second at the PGA Championship in May.
Now, the American golfer showed a little vulnerability heading into the FedEx Cup Playoff. Scheffler dropped to a tie for 23rd at The Open Championship. A second-round 75 derailed any hope of Scheffler winning across the pond in England. Normally, this is the kind of course that suits him pretty well. However, consistency breeds concerns. It may be good for the war (to win the playoff) but not necessarily the battle.

However, TPC Southward saw Rory McIlroy pile up enough points along with the other two courses to win the playoffs. The thought process is that Scheffler will be more of a factor at the BMW Championship. Again, we will get to the Tour Championship at a later time. For this tournament, the New Jersey native might have a few problems getting going initially.
Scheffler is not a contending pick though despite his favorite status. A scenario playing out involves him struggling to even stay around the top ten this weekend. There are a few wiser choices below to win this tournament. FedEx St. Jude Betting Picks offer some players who might have a likelier chance at winning this first playoff event.
Brian Harman Longer Shot Bet For FedEx St. Jude Championship
Okay, playoff events like these create some crazy ideas and possibilities. Why? That is easy. Always bet with extreme caution when it comes to smaller (even high-quality) fields. There carries some strange variance sometimes. No one likes to mention that but the reality is there.
After all, historical data keeps bouncing around when it comes to the FedEx St. Jude Championship. He could easily perform well on this TPC Southwind course. After all, Harman finished tied for third here last year and has always enjoyed the event even in its pre-playoff days. A few missed putts kept the American golfer for getting into the playoff with Will Zalatoris and Sepp Straka.
Heading into the weeks before the Open Championship, Harman kept showing solid form. His deliberate play rankles some other opponents but his results cannot be disputed. Harman easily won his first major across the pond and was around five strokes ahead for what felt like the entire weekend. It was, by far, his finest moment on any golf course. Also, it leads us to a pretty solid wager or two.

Again this rationale is not off base. Some debate that it is impossible to predict a winner in this type of field is valid. However, one has to take different shots when almost all of them would be otherwise on the top contenders. Harman has the strokes gained game down pat this season and has been putting better again. He is worth a pick for winner and even a top-10 (+320).
What About Sepp Straka For FedEx St. Jude Championship Bets?
What about Sepp Straka for the FedEx St. Jude Championship Bets? This golfer goes on runs of birdies with golfers of this level. Surprisingly, he is down the list because of the increased strength of this field. Honestly, at around +5000 to +6500, the Austrian golfer has slipped through the cracks considerably.
There are some notable golfers around this comparable. Unfortunately, Tom Kim did not play last week and no one quite knows how healthy he actually is for this week’s event. At +4000, the South Korean is an intriguing pick but Straka is the golfer on a better run and has form which is a little more consistent.
This course favors a golfer similar to what Straka brings to the table. He nearly won the event last year. He lost out in a playoff to Will Zalatoris. Some believe Straka could have easily won this tournament.
Seven Georgia Bulldogs finish the PGA Tour regular season inside the top 70 and qualify for the FedExCup Playoffs:
6. Brian Harman
15. Sepp Straka
20. Russell Henley
28. Chris Kirk
39. Brendon Todd
42. Harris English
58. Keith Mitchell— Dawgs On Tour (@DawgsOnTour) August 7, 2023
Last week’s results were troubling as Straka missed the cut but maybe he was holding back. He is worth a look in the FedEx St. Jude Betting Picks.
