Jayson Tatum’s Celtics to clobber Knicks at home on Monday night

  • Jayson Tatum and the Celtics (7-2) are 9-point home favorites over the Knicks (5-4)
  • Jaylen Brown has led his team to consecutive victories with 57 points in his past two games
  • Monday night’s game tips off from TD Bank Garden in Boston, MA at 7:30pm ET

Boston rebounded from a 106-103 loss in Philadelphia with two convincing home victories over the Nets and Raptors over the weekend. Meanwhile, the Knicks have reeled off three straight wins over the Clippers, Spurs and Hornets.

New York held a 3-1 edge in the season series with their Atlantic Division rivals last year, but the Celtics knocked them off at home in the season opener. Can they repay the favor in TD Bank Garden on Monday night? Jaylen Brown leads the way

Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown combined for 56 points in a 117-94 blowout of the Raptors on Saturday. The Celtics made 15 three-pointers on the night, with Tatum, Brown and newcomer Kristaps Porzingis hitting nine between them. Brown has been on a heater of late, leading his team in scoring in wins against Toronto and Brooklyn.

Jrue Holiday almost had a triple-double in Friday’s victory over the Nets with 13 points, 12 rebounds and nine assists. Back on a two-game winning streak after losing two in a row to Minnesota and Philadelphia, Boston sits in second-place in the Eastern Conference with a 7-2 record.

Randle comes alive

Julius Randle registered 23 points, five rebounds and five assists in a 129-107 win over Charlotte on Sunday. Encouragingly, it was the first time all season the Knicks power forward shot above 50 percent from the field. R.J. Barrett and Jalen Brunson added 24 and 23 points, respectively, in the win.

New York has now captured three straight games, rebounding from a rough 2-4 start to the year. As always, Tom Thibodeau’s team is playing tough defense, ranking second in the NBA in points-against per game (102.8).

Boston vs New York

Boston is a heavy 9-point home favorite on Monday with the over/under set at 220 points. Joe Mazzulla’s squad is a perfect 4-0 at home this season (3-1 against the spread). The Celtics defeated the Knicks 108-104 at Madison Square Garden in the season opener, snapping a three-game losing streak to Thibodeau’s club. Tatum scored a game-high 34 points in the victory.

The Knicks’ 29-17-1 ATS record on the road last season ranked third-best in the entire NBA. This year, New York is 2-2 on the road (2-1-1 ATS) and they kept things close in Milwaukee last Friday, losing by only five points.

Best Bet

New York is playing on back-to-back nights and the Celtics have won their four home games this season by an average of 24 points. Despite the Knicks’ impressive road play under Thibodeau over the past few years, we like Boston to cover (-9) at TD Bank Garden on Monday night with the OVER 220 points.
