One of the most improbable Game 7s in NBA history will take place in TD Bank Garden on Monday night as the Celtics look to become the first club to ever overcome a 3-0 deficit in a best-of-seven series.

Miami was a fraction of a second away from making their second trip to the NBA Finals in four years before a Derrick White putback at the buzzer gave Boston a 104-103 Game 6 victory.

Miracle at the buzzer

The series looked all but over when Marcus Smart missed a 3-pointer with time expiring on Saturday. But, in a blink of an eye, Derrick White came flying in from out of nowhere to score the winning bucket in Game 6. Boston became just the fourth-team in NBA history to erase a 3-0 series deficit. Their three predecessors all failed to complete the comeback, but unlike the Celtics, none of those clubs had Game 7 on their home court.

Before losing three-straight, Miami had only lost three games the entire postseason. Now the Heat are in danger of becoming the first of 151 teams to blow a 3-0 series advantage.

Expect more from stars in Game 7

Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown combined for 57 points in Game 6 . However, Tatum went cold late, making only one of his final nine shots. The 25-year-old also missed eight of nine 3-pointers as his team finished 7-of-35 beyond the arc.

Meanwhile, Miami shot a blistering 46.7% (14-of-30) from deep. It helped cover up an uncommonly bad night for Jimmy Butler, who shot 5-for-21 in the 104-103 loss. “If I play better, we’re not even in this position, honestly speaking,” said the 33-year-old guard after the game.

Boston vs Miami

Boston is a 7.5-point home favorite on Monday night. In addition to being the more talented team, the Celtics have all the momentum and are playing at home. However, keep in mind they’re playing .500 basketball (12-12) at TD Bank Garden in the postseason over the past three years.

The Game 7 over-under is set at only 202.5 points as oddsmakers expect a defensive slugfest. The first four matchups in this series went well over that total, but only 207 total points were scored in both game 5 and game 6.

Best Bet

The play of Butler and Tatum will no doubt determine the winner of this series. Butler missed a three-pointer at the buzzer in last year’s conference finals Game 7 loss to Boston, while Tatum scored 51 in Game 7 of the conference semifinals to ouster Philadelphia.

While Erik Spoelstra’s team is as mentally tough as they come, there may be too much scar tissue to overcome after being just 0.2 seconds away from the 2023 NBA Finals. The Celtics will make history on Monday night and advance to play Nikola Jokic and the Denver Nuggets for the championship.
