Wembanyama worth the hype?
Victor Wembanyama (-275) is expected to be named the MVP of the French Pro A League after averaging 22 points, 11 rebounds and 3 blocks per game as a 19-year-old. And once he joins the Spurs, the 7-foot-3 big man will be coached by the great Gregg Popovich while receiving tutelage from 5-time NBA champion Tim Duncan.
In addition to having a freakish wingspan bordering around 7-feet-8 inches, the French phenom possesses incredible agility and coordination with a smooth shooting stroke and impressive ball handling skills. What can he offer San Antonio in his rookie season? “I’m trying to win a ring ASAP, so be ready,” he said.

Scoot Henderson can score
Long considered the second-best prospect in the 2023 NBA Draft class, Scoot Henderson (+350) bypassed his senior year of high school to play in the G League. While he’s expected to land in either Charlotte or Portland, it’s difficult to believe the 19-year-old guard will suddenly light it up.
Henderson struggled with his shot against lesser competition than he’ll face in the NBA, converting just 42.9% of his field goal attempts last year with an ugly 27.5% mark from 3-point land.
What about Chet?
Chet Holmgren (+550) was the No. 2 overall pick in the 2022 NBA Draft. Like Wembanyama, he’s an absolute freak as a 7-footer. In his freshman year, the Gonzaga product averaged 14.1 points, 9.9 rebounds and 3.7 blocks per game while shooting 61% from the floor. Holmgren was also off to a hot start in NBA Summer League before a Lisfranc injury cost him his entire season.
Assuming he’s fully healthy, the 21-year-old will have an advantage over the other rookies competing for the award. He traveled with Oklahoma City for most of the season and is accustomed to the NBA lifestyle. With a young, talented nucleus led by Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, the Thunder will also be much better than the Spurs in 2023-24.

Other contenders
Brandon Miller (+1000) is gaining buzz in league circles and could very well be the Hornets pick at No. 2. The 6-foot-9 Alabama forward averaged 18.8 points and 8.2 rebounds per game last year.
A pair of twins, Amen Thompson (+1200) and Ausar Thompson (+2500), are expected to be impactful lottery picks. Both standing at 6-foot-7, the 20-year-old brothers starred in the Overtime Elite league in 2022, showcasing high basketball IQs and tenacious work ethics.
Best Bet
In all likelihood, Victor Wembanyama will go on to join David Robinson and Tim Duncan as No. 1 overall picks who won the NBA Rookie of the Year award with the San Antonio Spurs.
However, if you’re making that wager at -275, don’t forget to sprinkle some on Chet Holmgren (+550) just in case.
