Outside of the Apple Cup, there’s no other college football rivalry game that people look forward to more in the PNW than Oregon vs. Oregon State. Both of these teams are loaded with talent and they’ve been fantastic this campaign. With Oregon all set to leave for the Big Ten, this could be the final showdown we see for a while. With that said, Oregon is expected to dominate Oregon State in the 2023 Civil War.

The Ducks have been one of the best teams in the Pac-12 this year. If it weren’t for the Washington Huskies, we’d be talking about the Ducks as the best team out on the West Coast. However, UW is perfect on the season and they were the one who handed Oregon its only loss of the year. The hope is that these two teams will end up meeting for the conference championship early next month.

However, if Oregon State can pull off an upset, then there’s a chance we could see the Arizona Wildcats jump Oregon in the standings and head to Las Vegas for the Pac-12 title game instead. There’s certainly a lot of drama surrounding this Saturday’s game, with a lot on the line. UW is playing Washington State and they should cruise to a win in Saturday’s massive showdown. What will Oregon end up doing?

According to the best-rated sportsbooks, which includes the reliable Bovada review, the Ducks hold -250 NCAAF betting odds, while the Beavers have been set at +275. It feels like OSU, which just lost to Washington over the weekend, will need some sort of a miracle to come out on top. However, we don’t think that’s going to happen. We’re 100 percent going with the Ducks as our pick to win the Civil War.

The over should hit between the Ducks and Beavers

With how great these teams have looked in 2023, the over should hit between the Ducks and Beavers. With Oregon State, they’re known for their fantastic rushing attack – it gave UW a ton of problems on Saturday night. If Oregon State can keep running the ball with so much power, then they could give the Oregon defense a lot of issues from start to finish in this one. We anticipate that happening.

Meanwhile for Oregon, the offense rolls through quarterback Bo Nix, who is widely considered a first-round pick for next April’s NFL Draft. Nix has looked like one of the best quarterbacks in the country, but sometimes he gets overlooked because of the fantastic play of both Caleb Williams and Michael Penix Jr. Despite that, Nix is ready to make a statement vs. Oregon State and then hopefully against UW in the Pac-12 title game.

“Bo played exactly how you’re supposed to play in this game,” head coach Dan Lanning said after the win over Arizona State. “You talk about efficiency, you talk about getting the ball to the right people at the right time, protecting the ball. You know he has a big belief and trust in the people around him and Bo would be the first one to tell you the people around him make him special. But Bo Nix is special. Bo is special and he’s getting better and better by the game.”

Per the oddsmakers, the over/under for this game has been set at 49.5 points, with -110 NCAAF betting odds for both. While yes, both defenses can make game-breaking plays at the drop of a hat, it’s hard to ignore how strong the offenses are leading up to this massive battle. Because of all the playmakers that will be out on the field, we have a feeling a lot of points will be scored. We’re going with the over as our pick.

Oregon has fantastic odds to reach the College Football Playoff

One thing that has people all over Eugene fired up is that Oregon has fantastic odds to reach the College Football Playoff. Right now, Washington is considered the top Pac-12 school, but if the Ducks and Huskies do in fact end up meeting in the Pac-12 Championship Game, then the expectation is that Oregon will be favored for that game. If they’re able to beat Oregon State this weekend and then Washington next weekend, then there’s no reason they shouldn’t finish in the Top 4.

Having said that, these are two very difficult games and Lanning knows that there’s going to be a tall task ahead of his players for these contests. The pressure is going to be on for Nix to get the job done, as he also has a shot at the Heisman Trophy on the line over these next two weeks as well. Oregon fans are confident that the upperclassman will be able to get the job done. Only time will tell if Nix and his teammates are able to answer the call, but they’re in a great position to do so.
