Jordan Love’s star performance

Jordan Love’s near perfect game ended the Cowboys’ 16-game home-winning streak on Sunday. The 25 year-old finished with three passing TDs and the highest passer rating (157.2) in a road playoff game in the Super Bowl era. Aaron Jones added 118 rushing yards and three scores on the ground in 48-32 win that was nowhere near as close as the final score suggests.

Love is one of the hottest quarterbacks in the NFL. Since Week 11, the Utah State product has a 7-2 record with 2,422 passing yards, 21 TDs and only one interception.

SF’s high-octane offense awaits

Green Bay almost pitched a first-half shutout against Dallas, intercepting Dak Prescott twice and running a pick-six back into the endzone to go up 27-0. After taming the NFL’s No. 1 offense, Joe Barry’s much-maligned D now has a date with the No. 1 seed Niners. San Francisco is averaging 28.9 points per game (No. 2).

Christian McCaffrey led the NFL with 1,459 rushing yards and 14 TDs, with an additional 564 yards and seven scores through the air. The Packers defense allowed the fifth-most rushing yards (128) per game this season. They’ll also have to deal with Brock Purdy, who passed for 4,280 yards, 31 TDs and 11 INTs while leading the NFL in yards per attempt (9.6).

San Francisco vs Green Bay

San Francisco is a 10-point home favorite in Levi’s Stadium on Saturday night with the over-under set at 50.5 points. With CMC, George Kittle, Deebo Samuel and Brandon Aiyuk healthy and rested, Kyle Shananan’s offense should have no trouble scoring. However, the Packers have the young pass catchers (Jayden Reed, Romeo Doubs, Christian Watson, Dontayvion Wicks) to match points with the Niners.

Jumping out to an early lead will be crucial for Green Bay. Kyle Shanahan is 1-32 when trailing by 3+ points entering the fourth quarter, and 0-37 when trailing by 8+ points entering the final frame.

Longtime playoff rivals

This year’s NFC Divisional Round matchup will be the 10th all-time playoff meeting between Green Bay and San Francisco, a new NFL record. The Niners lead the all-time series 5-4 after winning four consecutive postseason meetings, including a 13-10 victory at Lambeau in the divisional round two years ago and a 37-20 win in the 2020 NFC Championship Game.

Both those recent playoff wins came against Aaron Rodgers, however. Matt Lafleur seems to be enjoying life much more with new starting QB Jordan Love.

Best Bet

San Francisco allowed the third-fewest points per game (17.5) and third-fewest rushing yards per game (89.7) this season, but Steve Wilks’ unit was often vulnerable through the air.

While we like Jordan Love and the Packers to cover (+10), we’ll take the favored 49ers to advance to the NFC Championship Game with the UNDER 50.5.
