Brock Purdy struggles in win

Brock Purdy struggled in the rain on Saturday night, completing just 53% of his passes before his game-winning drive against Green Bay. Trailing 21-17 in the fourth quarter following a Packers’ missed field goal, Purdy completed 6-of-7 passes for 47 yards before Christian McCaffrey ran in the go-ahead score.

The 24-21 victory marked the first time the 49ers won a game under Kyle Shanahan when trailing by 5+ points entering the fourth quarter. He was 0-31 previously, including playoffs.

Lions roar in Divisional Round

Jared Goff passed for 287 yards with two touchdowns in a 31-23 win over Tampa Bay, playing turnover-free football for his second-straight playoff start. Rookie Jahmyr Gibbs broke off a game-changing 31-yard TD scamper early in the fourth quarter, finishing with 114 total yards and a score.

Detroit was in control for most of the contest, but didn’t seal the Divisional Round win until picking off Baker Mayfield with 1:35 remaining. Dan Campbell’s squad now heads to its first NFC Championship Game since the 1991 season.

San Francisco vs Detroit

San Francisco is a 7-point home favorite in Levi’s Stadium on Sunday evening with the over-under set at 51 points. These teams finished top-five in points per game and passing yards per game. However, the 49ers also boast a top-five scoring defense that allowed almost five fewer points per game than the Lions.

Detroit is particularly bad through the air, permitting the second-most passing yards (256.9) in the NFL per week. While Purdy struggled in the Divisional Round, he should have no trouble finding Brandon Aiyuk and George Kittle for big gains this Sunday. Meanwhile, Deebo Samuel is considered 50-50 to play after suffering a left shoulder injury on Saturday.

Strong run defenses

Christian McCaffrey is coming off a 98-yard rushing performance with two TDs. Detroit allowed the second-fewest yards (87.7) on the ground this year with San Francisco (92.3) right behind them.

Neither Shanahan nor Lions OC Ben Johnson should have trouble scheming up points, however. This matchup pits two of the NFL’s most talented playcallers against each other in what should be a high-scoring game.

Best Bet

Dan Campbell’s Lions are one of the league’s most-likeable teams in years. But, let’s face it – San Francisco is on a whole other level.

After narrowly surviving a scare last weekend, the Niners will cover (-7) and cruise into their second Super Bowl in four years. We also like the OVER 51 points.
