Cowboys to rebound with a close road victory over the Chargers in Week 6

  • Dallas (3-2) is a 2-point road favorite over the Chargers (2-2) in Week 6 of the NFL season
  • Dak Prescott and the Cowboys are under fire following their blowout loss to the 49ers
  • Monday Night Football on ESPN kicks off from SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, CA at 8:15 pm ET

Jerry Jones came to Dak Prescott’s defense in the media this week after his star quarterback tossed three interceptions in a 42-10 defeat to San Francisco. But things will get even uglier in Dallas if Mike McCarthy loses to Kellen Moore on Monday Night Football.

Will the Chargers offensive coordinator, who was fired by the Cowboys in the offseason, have his revenge in week 6? Before we check the odds on the game and make our picks, here’s where you can find the best Super Bowl betting tips and the top betting sites for NFL football in 2023.

Trouble brewing in big D

Mike McCarthy fired offensive coordinator Kellen Moore following the Cowboys’ latest playoff loss to the Niners and instated himself as chief play caller. Let’s just say, the returns haven’t been good through five weeks with Dallas dropping from No. 3 in the NFL in offensive points per game (26.9) under Moore to 15th (21.2) under McCarthy. The Cowboys’ red zone and goal-to-go efficiency has also plummeted from first to 28th and second to 30th, respectively.

Jerry Jones stated this week that, “Dak Prescott is a quarterback that can get us to the Super Bowl,” however, the 30-year-old had already thrown four interceptions this season after tossing a league-high 15 picks a year ago.

Chargers coming off a bye week

Los Angeles dropped its first two games of the season to the Dolphins and Chargers by a combined five points before rebounding with two-straight wins over the Vikings and Raiders. Adjusting well to Kellen Moore’s scheme, Justin Herbert has the second-best QBR (106.3) among starting quarterbacks with seven touchdowns to just one interception.

While Mike Williams is out for the season, Keenan Allen is off to a blistering start, averaging 8.75 receptions and 108.5 yards per game with three TDs. The Chargers should also get their No. 21 overall pick, Quentin Johnston, more involved following their bye week.

Los Angeles vs Dallas

Los Angeles is a 2-point underdog at SoFi Stadium, where home field advantage doesn’t exist, and the 50.5-point over/under is the highest of the entire week 6 slate. Both teams rank in the top ten in points scored. While the Chargers are No. 6 in passing yards per game (269.0), the Dallas defense ranks second in passing yards allowed (168.6).

The Cowboys’ defensive statistics may have been buoyed by matchups with the Jets, Giants and Patriots. But, even so, the Bolts will have their hands full with game wrecker Micah Parsons.

Injury updates

Star running back Austin Ekeler will suit up after missing three games with a high ankle sprain, but it’s too early to tell if edge rusher Joey Bosa will return from a hamstring injury. If not, 32-year-old Khalil Mack will be counted on to turn back the clock once again after registering six sacks in a week 6 win over the Raiders.

Dallas’ offensive line finally looks to be at full strength, but they’re missing key pieces on defense. In addition to Trevon Diggs’ season-ending ACL injury, the Cowboys lost linebacker Leighton Vander Esch to a neck injury in week 5.

Best Bet

In a matchup between two of the most overmatched coaches in the league, Mike McCarthy and Brandon Staley, we should probably take the points in what should be a close game. Yet, we’ll bet on the Cowboys to rebound against a Chargers D that is allowing the second most yards of offense (404.0) in the NFL.

Take Dallas to cover the 2 points with the UNDER 50.5 points.
