49ers to takedown Eagles in NFC Championship Game rematch on Sunday

  • Philadelphia (10-1) is a 3-point home underdog to the 49ers (8-3) in Week 13 of the NFL season
  • Brock Purdy has passed for 838 yards and 7 TDs during San Francisco’s current three-game win streak
  • Sunday’s contest kicks off from Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia, PA at 4:25pm ET

One week after defeating the Chiefs in a Super Bowl rematch, Jalen Hurts scored five total touchdowns in a thrilling 37-34 OT win over the Bills. At 10-1, Philadelphia has the best record in the NFL, but they’re a 3-point home underdog to the 49ers in week 13. San Francisco trounced the Seahawks 31-13 on Thanksgiving Day and aim for revenge against an Eagles team that defeated them in last year’s NFC Championship Game.

Before we check the odds and make our picks on Sunday’s game, here’s where you can find the best Super Bowl betting tips and the top betting sites for NFL football in 2023.

NFC Championship Game rematch

Philadelphia trounced San Francisco 31-7 in the 2023 NFC Championship Game after both Brock Purdy and backup quarterback Josh Johnson were forced out with injuries. Many Niners players spent the offseason insinuating that the result would have been different if their rookie QB hasn’t suffered a torn UCL.

“Talk is cheap,” said Eagles pass rusher Haason Reddick this week. “It was a lot of boo hoos last year, a lot of crying, a lot of what if, a lot of this, a lot of that.” Kyle Shanahan’s club is 3-0 since returning from their bye week, outscoring opponents by 62 points.

Jalen Hurts vs Brock Purdy

Jalen Hurts is currently the 2023 NFL MVP favorite after outdueling Patrick Mahomes and Josh Allen in consecutive weeks. In Sunday’s victory over Buffalo, he passed for 200 yards, three TDs and an interception with an additional 65 yards and two scores on the ground. The 49ers defense held him to just 121 passing yards in last year’s playoff matchup, although Hurts ran for 39 yards and a TD.

Brock Purdy has passed for 838 yards and 7 TDs with one INT over San Francisco’s recent three-game win streak. However, Mr. Irrelevant was shaky before their week 9 bye, tossing five interceptions during a three-game losing skid.

Philadelphia vs San Francisco

Philadelphia is a 3-point underdog at Lincoln Financial Field on Sunday with the over/under set at 46.5 points. It’s not often you see a 10-1 team as a field-goal dog at home. However, most of the nerdy stats are in the 49ers favor. San Francisco is the No. 2 ranked team by DVOA with the best offense and the sixth-rated defense.

In comparison, Nick Sirianni’s club ranks just No. 8 overall by DVOA with the seventh-best offense and the 16th-ranked defense. When looking at traditional stats, both offenses are tied with 28.2 points per game. However, Steve Wilks’ D is permitting the fewest points per game (15.5) while the Eagles are allowing 22.4 (20th in the NFL).

Star power on both sides

Christian McCaffery leads the NFL with 939 rushing yards and 16 combined touchdowns, failing to score in only one game this year. Philadelphia has the No. 3 ranked defense against the run, but are allowing the fourth-most passing yards per week (255.7). That could mean big things for Brandon Aiyuk, Deebo Samuel and George Kittle.

A.J. Brown sits in fourth in the league with 1,050 receiving yards with 7 TDs. DeVonta Smith has also come alive lately with 256 receiving yards and two scores over the past three weeks. Expect the 49ers’ No. 2 ranked rushing defense to force Hurts to beat them through the air.

Best Bet

Philadelphia has passed every test to this point, taking down the Dolphins, Cowboys, Chiefs and Bills. But you have to wonder how much mental and physical energy they have left after roller-coaster wins over KC and Buffalo.

Coming off 10 days rest, we like San Francisco to cover (-3) on the road with the UNDER 46.5.
