Detroit failed to follow up their opening night victory over the Super Bowl champion Chiefs, falling 37-31 to the Seahawks at home in week 2. To keep hopes riding high in the Motor City, they’ll need to take down an undefeated Atlanta team that’s coming off wins over the Panthers and Packers.
Before we check the odds on the Lions vs Falcons matchup, here’s where you can find the best Super Bowl betting tips and the top betting sites for NFL football in 2023.

Bijan running at full blast
Bijan Robinson racked up 172 scrimmage yards in Atlanta’s 25-24 win over Green Bay, with four forced missed tackles on runs and 88 rushing yards after contact. The rookie looked incredibly elusive on Sunday, single-handedly leading his team down the field during some drives. While his backfield mate Tyler Allgeier was quiet on Sunday after scoring two touchdowns in week 1, the running back duo might be the NFL’s best.
Desmond Ridder is 0-2 on the road in his career. The sophomore QB passed for 237 yards, TD and an INT in Sunday’s victory, finding Drake London six times for 67 yards and a score.

Lions lose shootout
Jared Goff passed for 323 yards and 3 TDs in Sunday’s 37-31 shootout loss, but threw a costly pick-six in the fourth quarter. It was the veteran signal caller’s first interception in 383 attempts. Before leaving the game with a thigh injury, David Montgomery fumbled in the third quarter. Star receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown hauled in six receptions for 102 yards, but also coughed the ball up in the second half.
All these mistakes added up to Detroit’s third defeat since the start of the 2022 season in which they scored 30-plus points – the most such losses in the NFL in that time.
Detroit vs Atlanta
Detroit is a 4-point favorite at Ford Field on Sunday. The Lions were 6-3 at home last season while the Falcons were 1-7 on the road. Atlanta’s improved defense should play a factor in week 3. One week after holding Bryce Young and the Panthers to just 10 points, Ryan Nielsen’s unit kept the Packers under 225 yards and 18 first downs on Sunday.
A fast start will be key for Dan Campbell’s club. They’ll need to put points on the board to force Ridder into passing situations. Otherwise, Robinson and Allgeier could run wild. Expect Arthur Smith to continue to pound the rock versus a Lions defense that allowed an ugly 5.2 yards per carry in 2022.

Best Bet
Atlanta’s 1-7 road record from 2022 makes them tough to bank on, but they look like the better team early in the season. We’ll take the Falcons to win straight up at +175 with the UNDER 47 points.
