Baltimore takes flight

Lamar Jackson passed for 264 yards and two touchdowns and scrambled for 54 more in the Ravens’ 34-20 win over the Bengals. Mark Andrews suffered a season-ending ankle injury in Thursday’s contest. However, Odell Beckham Jr.’s performance (4 receptions, 116 yards) offers hope that Baltimore’s offense can stay on track.

Gus Edwards has nine rushing TDs in the past five weeks after punching in two more versus Cincinnati. Undrafted rookie Keaton Mitchell has also added juice to the backfield, averaging 10.3 yards per carry with 250 combined yards and 2 TDs over the past month.

Brandon Staley’s last days?

Keenan Allen whiffed on two likely TDs, Austin Ekeler fumbled and Quentin Johnston dropped a would-be game-winner in the Chargers’ 23-20 defeat to the Packers on Sunday. It was Los Angeles’ fifth loss by three points or fewer this season. With a playoff spot slipping away, Brandon Staley boiled over while talking to media after the game.

Despite being a defensive head coach, Staley’s D is bottom-10 in points allowed per game (23.8) and dead-last in passing yards allowed (291.6). One week after giving up 533 yards to the Lions, the Bolts’ defense greased the wheels for Jordan Love’s first-ever 300-yard passing performance. Even worse, star edge rusher Joey Bosa was carted off with a foot injury.

Los Angeles vs Baltimore

Baltimore is a 3.5-point road favorite at SoFi Stadium on Sunday night and the over/under is set at 46.5 points. Todd Monken’s passing attack is averaging just 211.5 yards per game (20th in NFL) and Andrews is lost for the season, but everyone has success versus the Chargers through the air.

While LA has the league’s 12th-best run defense, Lamar Jackson’s dual-threat ability has made the Ravens’ No. 1 ranked rushing offense (155.1 yards per game) practically unstoppable. On the other side of the ball, Mike McDonald’s D is permitting the second-fewest points per game (16.1) and third-fewest passing yards 169.7).

Best Bet

Justin Herbert has passed for 2,609 yards, 19 TDs and 5 INTs this season, but his receiving options are limited with Mike Williams out for the season. Just a few weeks ago, the Jets defense limited the Chargers to 136 passing yards and no scores. Coming off 10 days rest, the Ravens superior D should be able to execute a similar game plan.

Take Baltimore to cover the points (-3.5) in an easy win that could spell the end for the Brandon Staley era in LA.
