When it comes to the sports betting world over in Maryland, things have surely gone according to plan since the state’s launch. However, one thing has stood out in a not so great way: the lack of mobile betting options. Matter of fact, those kinds of wagers haven’t been made available to the public yet, which has been rough to see. However, the fact of the matter is that Maryland online sports betting took a positive step with the latest update from local outlets.
According to a report, Maryland Sports Wagering Application Review Commission met recently and one of the major topics of discussion was moving forward with online sports betting for people to take advantage of. At this meeting, regulations and different laws were discussed to try and help things in moving forward. Per a report, those discussions went well and while no set date has even been close to being finalized, the feeling is that the SWARC is ready to try and get things done.
It has previously been stated that Maryland is hoping to get the online betting options ready for the start of football season. This makes a ton of sense, as people have their eyes set on betting not only on the NFL, but on college football too. They have this option by going to the authorized sportsbooks in person, but there’s a big difference from getting in your car and making a bet live, than being able to sit at home, relax and just pull the trigger from your mobile tablet or phone.
This is something Maryland is quite aware of, which is why they’re listening to the cries from the general public on trying to move forward with things. We should find out in the coming weeks some more news on this, but the fact that this step has been taken is great to see.

When could Maryland online sports betting launch?
The question everyone has on their minds is when could Maryland online sports betting launch? Things are up in the air for now, but as we mentioned, the start of the NFL season has long been a target date. With this, people will be seeing if this happens by September. If the SWARC does move forward with the September launch, we don’t have to tell you how massive it would be for Maryland.
Football betting is king in the United States when it comes to sports. Each fall, billions of dollars are wagered both at the professional and college level. For the NFL, people in Maryland will of course be ready to make their bets on the Washington Commanders. Washington, entering its first season with a new name, has high expectations now that Carson Wentz has arrived as the new starting quarterback.
On top of that, young starts like Chase Young and Antonio Gibson will be ready to make plenty of noise too. On top of that, wide receiver Terry McLaurin just signed his monster three-year extension too, which still has a lot of people talking. The NFC East as a whole is quite intriguing and it feels up for grabs. The Eagles and Cowboys figure to battle it out as well, while no one can dismiss the NY Giants either. Things are looking revamped with the Giants thanks to Kayvon Thibodeaux and Evan Neal.
At the college level, the Big Ten, Big 12, ACC, SEC and Pac-12 have a lot of eyes on them as well. The Maryland Terrapins are due for a big year, which has fans excited. While bets can still be made in person, you already know that even more will come in through online apps. This is why it is so important for Maryland to try and get something done in the near future for online. People believe that September betting will go down
If you take a look on social media, the general consensus is that people believe that September betting will go down from a mobile standpoint. The wheels most surely are in motion, which is a great sign. What makes Maryland stand out a bit here is the fact that sports betting as a whole is already legalized. Things would be different if there was that additional hurdle to be cleared, but that’s not the case here.
More, this is just Maryland trying to improve the user experience for all of the bettors out there, as the online option would add an extra, needed layer to things. This is why the SWARC is hoping to push things through and there’s only a few obstacles standing in the way. At the end of the day, people are feeling hopeful that they’ll have bets at their finger tips in the near future, with September looking likely. Once things pass, the number of bets in Maryland will skyrocket. People can’t wait for it.
