Washington Sports Betting Won’t Be Expanding in the Near Future

For those waiting to see if Washington sports betting changes would be on the way later this year, we’re sorry to tell you that won’t be happening. There had been a federal lawsuit filed to try and open up more options for sports fans out there to place their wagers. However, we now know that Washington sports betting won’t be expanding in the near future. That’s because the lawsuit was officially dismissed.

The lawsuit was filed by the owners of Maverick Gaming, as they were hoping to see sports betting kiosks allowed at casinos and card rooms across the state. As things currently stand, only in-person betting options are allowed on tribal lands. There are several big-name casinos in Washington run by Indian Tribes, as they control betting in the state for now. Maverick Gaming and Co. wanted that to no longer be the case.

However, this original pact was agreed upon legally by the tribes and Governor Jay Inslee. From the viewpoint of the team over at Maverick Gaming, it’s not fair for only tribal lands to feature sports betting for fans. They want people to check the NFL betting odds and place wagers on the Seattle Seahawks and other squads in more than just those locations. That’s what they were pushing for with their lawsuit.

With that said, it felt like a long shot from the start that things would be overturned. For now, only in-person bets are allowed at the tribal casinos and online betting is also limited for people in Washington as well. Maverick Gaming lost their chance to make history this time around, but they’re not done trying to see something change here. Things have been put on hold with the latest rough update, but who knows, maybe things can change down the road.

March Madness bets are through the roof in Washington right now

Despite the expanded betting options being a no-go for now, there’s no denying that March Madness bets are through the roof right now. Why, you ask? Well, the Gonzaga Bulldogs have people all over the state fired up, as they were able to take down the UCLA Bruins in dramatic fashion in the Sweet 16. In that game, Gonzaga was down late in the action, but a huge 3-pointer from Julian Strawther with the game on the line put the ‘Zags over the top.

The Spokane-based school has loads of followers in eastern Washington, but fans all over Seattle are betting big on this team right now too. Despite Gonzaga being a No. 3 seed, they have strong NCAA National Championship odds now that there are only eight teams left in the NCAA Tournament. Gonzaga has never won it all, but they’re hoping to make history this time around. Head coach Mark Few believes in these guys.

“Julian makes it all the time,” Few said on Strawther’s incredible shot to send Gonzaga to the next round. “When he asked me, it was stronger words than what he used. I just said, yeah, make it. Make it. But if he was closely guarded I wanted him going downhill to get to his floater which he’s been great at all year.”

Strawther came up huge for Few, but he also stepped his game up for all of the Gonzaga supporters out there as well. Now, Gonzaga is hoping to move on to the Final Four, and then hopefully the title game. With only three more rounds of play left, people all over Washington are going to keep betting on Gonzaga to keep rocking. Things are looking great for the talented hoops squad. Only time will tell if they make history or not.

MLB betting should be massive in Washington this season as well

Despite the expanded betting not getting the green light, the expectation is that MLB betting should be massive in Washington this season as well. The Seattle Mariners are coming off their first campaign making the playoffs since 2001. Young center fielder Julio Rodriguez took home AL Rookie of the Year honors last season and now he’s ready to make an even bigger impact for the club in 2023.

On top of that, starting pitcher Luis Castillo is also hoping to make a splash, as he has strong MLB betting odds to potentially win the Cy Young in the American League. While the Houston Astros are the favorites to win the AL West, Seattle will be ready to try and surprise a lot of baseball experts out there. It won’t be easy, but a lot of bettors in Washington are hopeful that the Mariners can stun the Astros and somehow come out on top.

Not only that, but a lot of bettors are placing early futures picks for the season ahead of Opening Day, which is right around the corner. The Yankees are receiving a lot of bets to win the AL and then go on to the World Series, but other teams will look to take them and the Astros down. The Mariners could be a team to watch throughout the year and in the playoffs. People in Washington will be betting on them from start to finish.
