Braves Are Favored to Beat the Phillies in Sunday’s Series Finale

β€’ Atlanta Braves vs. Philadelphia Phillies
β€’ Sunday, May 28 at 7:10 PM ET
β€’ Truist Park in Atlanta, Georgia

This is easily one of the best matchups of the week. Whenever the Atlanta Braves and Philadelphia Phillies square off, you know there’s going to be a lot of tension between the two. These teams don’t like one another, as these two form one of the best rivalries in the National League. This weekend, the NL East sides are facing off at Truist Park in what should be a memorable set of contests. With that said, the Braves are favored to beat the Phillies in Sunday’s series finale.

What Atlanta has been able to do this season has been terrific. Early on, people couldn’t stop talking about the Tampa Bay Rays and understandably so. However, in recent weeks, the Braves have looked like the best team in the bigs. The Phillies have been a disappointment, though, which is not what a lot of people expected to see. Philly was hoping to be in the World Series hunt this year, but they’re currently three games under .500.

As for the Braves, they’re 30-19 on the year and people all over Georgia are hoping that this team can go on a deep postseason run. With how good the Braves are on offense and with their pitching, there’s no reason to believe that this team can’t get back to the Fall Classic. A lot of people think the Braves and Dodgers could meet in the NLCS, but don’t sleep on a squad like the Phillies here either.

According to the best-rated sportsbooks, which includes the reliable Bovada review, the Braves hold -115 MLB betting odds to post a victory over the Phillies on Sunday. The Phillies have been placed at +125. For Atlanta, they’re going to want to defend their home-field advantage, especially with the stadium expected to be packed too. This should be a day to remember for the home team. We’re going with the Braves as our pick.

The under should hit in the Braves vs. Phillies showdown

When taking into consideration how many runs might be scored in this one, we think the under should hit in the Braves vs. Phillies showdown. As things stand, the Phillies are yet to announce who will be getting the start for them, but we do know that Atlanta will be sending Spencer Strider out onto the bump. Strider has really been impressive this season for Atlanta’s starting rotation.

On the year, the hard-throwing righty is 4-2 on the year with a 2.97 ERA. Not only that, but Strider has an impressive 97 strikeouts to his name. That’s amazing to see. Strider has been so good, he’s actually got a 1.04 WHIP to his name too, which is fantastic to see. Whenever he’s on the hill for Atlanta, they’re a serious threat to record a victory. Strider will look to post yet another strong showing for his team. He wants to bounce back after a recent loss to LA too.

β€œNormally I get away with a few mistakes in a game but tonight I didn’t,” Strider said after a loss to the Dodgers. β€œI’ve got to give credit to them. They’re capable of making you pay.Β Generally, I hold myself to the standard that if I get a guy with two strikes and he gets on base then I’ve messed up. There were a couple of times I didn’t execute. Sometimes you get away with it, but they’re talented.”

Strider is one of the top pitchers in the division and sometimes people don’t give him the kind of respect he deserves. He’s going to face a tough Philly lineup, but we expect him to record a strong performance. Per the oddsmakers, the over/under has been set at 6.5 runs. With Strider on the bump, Philly should be kept in check. Because of that, we’re going with the under as our pick in this case.

Atlanta remains the favorite to win the NL East

While the Dodgers are the new top dogs to win the World Series, Atlanta remains the favorite to win the NL East this season. It’s going to take a miracle for anyone to catch up to them, as the Mets and Phillies, two other contenders, haven’t lived up to the hype thus far in 2023. While an NL East title would be nice for Atlanta, they have their eyes on the NL pennant this fall. Their fans are also hopeful of a return trip to the World Series that we mentioned above. Could it happen?

The Dodgers are the favorites to win the World Series at +450, with Atlanta right behind them with +500 MLB betting odds. In terms of the NL East, the Braves have been set at -250, which shows how confident people in Vegas are that they’ll capture that title. Atlanta needs to stay hot, as they’re a dangerous team with Strider, Ronald Acuna Jr., Marcell Ozuna and others. We’re excited to see how things go down for them the rest of the way. It could be a year to remember for them.
