Now that the second half of the Major League Baseball season is in full swing, we are seeing star players put on a show already. This includes guys on the Los Angeles Dodgers, as the NL West powerhouse is ready to try and make a push for the World Series. This week, the Dodgers have a great chance to make a statement, as they’ll be hosting Toronto for a series. With that said, the Dodgers are favored to beat the Blue Jays with Tony Gonsolin pitching on Wednesday.
With a team featuring so much talent, Gonsolin often gets overlooked for how great he can be on the bump. Thus far this season, Gonsolin has posted a 5-3 record, with a 3.94 ERA and 63 strikeouts. While the ERA being so close to 4.00 is a bit concerning, Gonsolin has been quite consistent this year and he has made some hitters look foolish at times with his incredible stuff.

He’s going to have a tall task in trying to slow down the Blue Jays lineup, but we have a strong belief in Gonsolin’s game. Luckily for him, he should get plenty of run support, as the Dodgers have an impressive lineup as well. All in all, this should be a fantastic game for people to enjoy. Both the Blue Jays and Dodgers appear to be headed to the playoffs this fall, which will only make this series even more intriguing.
According to the best-rated sportsbooks, which includes the reliable Bovada review, the Dodgers hold -115 MLB betting odds to post a win against the Blue Jays, while Toronto has been set at +125. With this game being played at Dodger Stadium, it’s only going to give LA more of a leg up against the Blue Jays. As high as we are on Gonsolin, the over should hit in the Dodgers vs. Blue Jays matchup. Gonsolin has an ERA close to 4.00 and Toronto is all set to start Yusei Kikuchi, who has a 3.92 ERA. Both these pitchers are strong, but when you’re facing lineups like the ones that LA and Toronto have, then you’re sure to have a bit of a long outing on the bump. With Toronto, goodness, they have a ton of young talent.
This includes Vlad Guerrero Jr., Bo Bichette, George Springer and more. With Guerrero Jr., he’s one of the most exciting sluggers in the game and he put on a show in the Home Run Derby. He was the champion, taking down Julio Rodriguez in the semifinals with ease. Guerrero joined his father Vlad Guerrero Sr. in winning the HR Derby, making them the first father-son combo in history to win the exciting tournament.

As for the Dodgers, Mookie Betts, Freddie Freeman, J.D. Martinez and others will also be ready to put on a show in this one. Freeman is in the NL MVP hunt. If it weren’t for Ronald Acuña Jr., then we’d be talking about Freeman as the top contender to take home the honor. Freeman is a fantastic hitter, but he also does sensational work in the field from his first base spot. He’s a big-time talent.
According to the oddsmakers, the over/under has been set at 6.5 runs, with -110 MLB betting odds for both. Normally, we’d go with the under when you have two talented pitchers on the bump like Gonsolin and Kikuchi, but we can’t ignore the fact that both of these lineups are among the best in the bigs. While the Tampa Bay Rays are the favorites to win the AL East, don’t forget that the Blue Jays have a great chance of making the postseason. As things stand, the Blue Jays are four games clear of the Los Angeles Angels for an AL Wild Card spot. Toronto made the postseason last campaign, but they suffered a shocking loss to the Seattle Mariners in the Wild Card Round. No one was expecting that, as Toronto was favored to take care of business vs. Seattle and then move on to take on Houston.
Now looking ahead to this fall, Toronto fans are hoping that this team can make plenty of noise in the playoffs. Right now, the Blue Jays hold -125 odds to grab a Wild Card position and book a trip to the playoffs. Should they advance, then they’ll most definitely be a team to watch in the American League once the postseason does arrive. There are plenty of teams chasing them, but something tells us that Toronto will find a way to get the job done and then keep on playing in the playoffs.
