Dodgers Are Favored to Beat the Padres in a Big NL West Meeting

β€’ Los Angeles Dodgers vs. San Diego Padres
β€’ Saturday, May 13 at 7:15 PM ET
β€’ Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles, California

Could this be a preview of a postseason showdown later this year? A lot of people think so, as the Los Angeles Dodgers and San Diego Padres are meeting in an exciting series this weekend. The action will be taking place at Dodgers Stadium in LA, which has a lot of the local fans excited. Come Saturday night, the Dodgers are favored to beat the Padres in a big NL West meeting. Who will come out on top?

For the Dodgers, they’ll be sending out ace hurler Julio UriasΒ to start. Urias has been pretty solid this year, holding four wins for his resume and a 3.77 ERA. Urias knows that he’ll have a tall task in trying to contain the San Diego lineup, as they’re loaded with an unreal amount of talent, but the LA supporters have full trust in him getting the job done. What’s good for Urias is that you can always expect him to get plenty of run support.

The Dodgers feature a spectacular lineup, which of course features Mookie Betts, Freddie Freeman and others. As of this writing, the Dodgers are 23-15 on the year, with their hitting being a big reason why they’re looking so sharp. The Dodgers entered the season with high World Series betting odds and that fact isn’t going to change soon. LA very well could end up winning their second title in the past three years. They can make a statement with a win over San Diego.

According to the best-rated sportsbooks, which includes the reliable Bovada review, the Dodgers hold -115 MLB betting odds. The Padres have been set at +125. While San Diego surely has the potential to record an upset in Los Angeles, it’s going to be a tall task for them. The Dodgers continue to prove why they’re among the best teams in the National League. With that said, we’re going with the Dodgers as our pick.

The Dodgers and Padres should cover the over on Saturday night

Thanks to both teams having so much talent with the bat in their hands, the Dodgers and Padres should cover the over on Saturday night. Urias is a tough customer with the ball in his hands, but keep in mind before you place your wagers this weekend that the Padres will be starting Joe Musgrove. The veteran right-handed pitcher will enter Saturday’s showdown with a 6.75 ERA – which is quite rough.

So, a pitcher with an ERA near 7.00 is going to take the bump to take on the Dodgers? That’s a recipe for a disaster right there. As we said above, Freeman, Betts and others will be poised to have a big series with San Diego in town. They’re not going to want Juan Soto, Manny Machado and Fernando Tatis Jr. to outshine them. Freeman is as steady as can be at the dish. The same can be said for Betts.

β€œThe last couple weeks have been pretty good,” Freeman said of the strong recent play of the Dodgers. “I think all of us were waiting for it to all kind of click. The first few weeks it was pitch good and we didn’t hit. Then we hit and we didn’t pitch. The last three or four series have been really, really good. Especially coming on a road trip like this and getting two series wins before we get to be home for a while was real nice.”

With Freeman and Co. playing so well, a lot of runs could be scored in this Saturday battle. Per the oddsmakers, the over/under has been set at 6.5 runs, with -110 MLB betting odds. From our chair, we think that a lot of runs are going to be scored, especially with a struggling Musgrove getting the nod for San Diego. It could be a long night for the visiting Padres. Because of this, we’re going with the over.

Can the Dodgers catch up to the Braves in the NL race?

Thus far this campaign, one of the biggest questions that has arrived is can the Dodgers catch up to the Braves in the NL race? Entering the season, LA was the top team in the NL in terms of World Series betting odds. Fast forward to the present time and not only has Atlanta topped LA, but the Braves also are the favorites to win the Fall Classic. What a different 35 games or so can make. With Atlanta playing so well, there’s a ton of pressure on the Dodgers to try and get back on top of them.

Not only are the Dodgers a club with an incredible amount of talent, but these guys also have loads of experience as well. It would be a surprise to see the Dodgers win the NL title and get back to the World Series. They hold +450 odds, while Atlanta is at +250. We can’t wait to see how things shape out here. It wouldn’t be a shocker to see the Dodgers come out on top.
