Guardians Are Favored to Beat the Yankees With Shane Bieber Pitching

β€’ New York Yankees vs. Cleveland Guardians
β€’ Wednesday, May 3 at 7:05PM ET
β€’ Yankee Stadium in Bronx, New York

Has there been a bigger disappointment in the majors this season than the New York Yankees? The Bronx Bombers entered the campaign with tremendous odds to win the Fall Classic, but they’re right around .500 as of this writing. Can Aaron Boon’s men turn things around? Who knows. This week, NY has a huge series with Cleveland and they need to make a statement. However, the Guardians are favored to beat the Yankees with Shane Bieber pitching on Wednesday.

Whenever the Yankees are playing at home, you’d think they’d be expected to record a win. However, that isn’t the case here, as the Guardians are looking like the better team these days. A big issue for the Yankees right now is they’re dealing with a bunch of injury issues. Not only is Giancarlo Stanton on the Injured List with a hamstring issue, but Aaron Judge is also dealing with a hip problem.

Judge is expected to play on Wednesday, as his injury isn’t considered a serious one. However, there’s no question that him dealing with a bum hip is going to impact his ability both in the outfield and at the plate. When he’s fully healthy, Judge is one of the best hitters in the game. He hit 62 home runs last season, showing why he’s a true superstar. The stud being injured is the last thing NY needs to be dealing with right now.

According to the best-rated sportsbooks, which includes the reliable Bovada review, the Guardians hold -115 MLB betting odds to post a victory in this one. As for the Yankees, despite this game being played in the Bronx, NY holds +125 odds to post a win on Wednesday in front of their home fans. Normally we’d rock with the Yankees to make people happy in NY, but we don’t think that will happen in this case. We’re going with Cleveland as our pick.

The under should hit in this contest between New York and Cleveland

Both of these teams have a ton of great batting talent, but the under should hit in this contest between New York and Cleveland. A big reason why we think this will be the case is because of Bieber. Thus far this season, the hard-throwing righty has been superb for the AL Central squad. Bieber is the proud owner of a 2-1 record and a 3.11 ERA. Not only that, but he has 26 strikeouts to his name.

What’s going to help Bieber and the Guardians here is that the Yankees indeed are banged up. Judge is dealing with his hip and Stanton is out with his hamstring. Those are two of the best home-run hitters in the game, but they aren’t fully available for Boone. That’s tough news all around for the Yankees. Bieber will now face the likes of Aaron Hicks, Gleyber Torres, Anthony Volpe and others. The Yankees at less than 100 percent isn’t a good look for them.

β€œAll together, it was a good start,” Bieber said following his last outing in a big Cleveland win over the Boston Red Sox. β€œJust trying to ride that wave and momentum and try to eat up innings and was able to do that.”

Per the oddsmakers, the over/under has been set at seven runs, with -110 MLB betting odds for both. Clarke Schmidt will be starting for the Yankees and he has an ERA north of 5.00. That alone might entice you to bet the over, but with the Yankees’ best players dealing with their problems, we don’t think that NY will be able to put up a lot of runs. Schmidt will do more than enough to keep things low too. We’re going with the under here.

Guardians are hoping to win the AL Central this year

Looking ahead to the rest of the regular season, the Guardians are hoping to win the AL Central this year. That’s not going to be easy for them, as the Minnesota Twins have been fantastic. Right now, the Twins hold -250 odds to win the division, while the Guardians are at +250. This alone tells you that experts think Minnesota is the No. 1 favorite to bring home a central title. However, don’t sleep on Cleveland in this case.

The Guardians feature a lot of talent on their roster too, including slugger Jose Ramirez. Sometimes, we think that Ramirez doesn’t get the kind of national attention that he deserves. He’s a great defensive player and he also has a phenomenal bat. His power is tough to match in the American League. Because of players like Ramirez, Cleveland could be in the hunt in the division later this year.

Cleveland is also hoping to get to the postseason this fall as well. Last year, they saw their season come to an end in the ALDS thanks to a series loss to the Yankees. That was rough to see. Some revenge for Cleveland could most definitely be on the way this week at Yankee Stadium. From start to finish, this series should be fun to watch.
