In the blink of an eye, around half of the Major League Baseball season has been played. That’s wild to think about, as countless stars will be making their way to the Pacific Northwest later this week for the All-Star Game next week. In this showdown, both the National League and American League will be represented by the top talent out there. With that said, the NL is favored to take down the AL in the 2023 All-Star Game. Which side will come out on top?
It goes without saying, but T-Mobile Park is going to be packed in Seattle for this incredible showcase. The last time the All-Star Game was played in Seattle, Hall of Famer Cal Ripken Jr. drilled a home run to the upper deck. What kind of memorable event can we expect to go down this year? With the roster announced for the two teams, people truly can’t wait for things to get underway.

In a bit of a late concern for the American League, though, Angels stars Mike Trout and Shohei Ohtani may not be able to suit up for this one. Earlier this week, Trout suffered a serious hand injury that will sideline him for a few weeks. Not only that, but soon after, Ohtani was removed from a game early due to an injury concern. His status for the All-Star Game is totally up in the air, but the Angels won’t risk letting him play if it could make him feel worse. That’s not good for the AL.
According to the best-rated sportsbooks, which includes the reliable Bovada review, the NL holds -115 MLB betting odds to post a victory on Tuesday night. The AL has been placed with +125 odds to take down the NL. You’d think that with this game being played in Seattle the AL would hold the advantage, but no Trout or Ohtani could be trouble for the squad. With that said, we’re going with the NL as our pick.

The over should hit in the All-Star Game
With so much star power on hand, the over should hit in the All-Star Game – there’s no doubt about it. Both the AL and NL are going to be featuring a ton of power at the plate. With the American League, folks can’t wait to see what Corey Seager, Randy Arozarena, Vladimir Guerrero Jr., Julio Rodriguez, Jonah Heim, Josh Jung and others will be able to get done with the world watching. Unfortunately for the AL, Aaron Judge also won’t be playing due to his toe injury.
On the other side of things, the NL’s roster is stacked. Things will include Freddie Freeman, Mookie Betts, J.D. Martinez, Ronald Acuna Jr. and more. With Acuna alone, goodness, the Braves outfielder is in the middle of an incredible season. Thus far in 2023, the NL MVP favorite is hitting .337, which is second on the bigs. He’s also got 21 home runs and 54 RBI to his name. He’s been sensational.

While pitchers like Gerrit Cole, Luis Castillo, Sonny Gray, Clayton Kershaw, Marcus Stroman and others will look to try and contain these hitters, that’s surely going to be much easier said than done. The weather is going to be perfect in Seattle on Tuesday night too, which is only going to help the ball travel through the air at a crisp velocity. We should see several home runs in this one.
Per the oddsmakers, the over/under has been set at eight runs. This is a bit higher than what we’d see for a normal contest, but people in Las Vegas know the All-Star Game is a one-of-a-kind showdown. The over holds -110 MLB betting odds and there are plenty of fans who think at least 9-10 runs will be scored. We agree with those folks, which is why we have no choice but to go with the over as our pick.
Julio Rodriguez will look to put on a show at the Home Run Derby
Before the All-Star Game arrives on Tuesday night, people will be tuned into the Home Run Derby on Monday. And in that showcase, Julio Rodriguez will look to put on a show at the Home Run Derby in front of his home fans. This is a special All-Star Game and Home Run Derby for Rodriguez, as everything indeed will be taking place in Seattle. This is his home park, with his biggest fans ready to make plenty of noise whenever he’s at the plate. This only makes things even more intriguing for him.
Rodriguez holds the top odds to win the HR Derby this year, especially after he nearly pulled things off last summer. J-Rod made it all the way to the final, but he wasn’t able to get the job done. Now, though, Rodriguez will look to take things to the next level with thousands of people watching in Seattle. His chances have only gone up with Shohei Ohtani not expected to participate in the HR Derby due to his recent injury.
