Marc Marquez is the Early Betting Favorite to Win the 2024 MotoGP World Championship

  • Francesco Bagnaia looks to win three MotoGP World Championships in a row in 2024
  • Marc Marquez is the early betting favorite despite not winning a MotoGP World Championship since 2019
  • The 2024 MotoGP Season begins on March 10, 2024, with the Qatar Airways Grand Prix of Qatar

The 2023 MotoGP season finished the same as the 2022 season, with Ducati rider Francesco Bagnaia claiming the world championship. The 27-year-old Bagnaia opened 2023 with a win in Portugal and finished with a victory in Valencia. Between those triumphs, he won five other races during the year. Jorge Martin, another Ducati rider, finished in second place in the world championship, while Marco Bezzecchi, who also rides a Ducati, finished in third.

The 2024 MotoGP season begins on March 10 in Qatar and wraps up on November 17 in Valencia. As of now, there are 21 MotoGP Grand Prix races scheduled for this season.

The big news during the offseason was that six-time MotoGP world champion Marc Marquez left Honda. Marquez will ride a Ducati for Gresini Racing in 2024. He joins his brother Alex on the team. Marc finished last year in 14th place, while Alex wrapped up 2023 in the ninth spot.

Marc Marquez

After 11 years with Honda, the 30-year-old Marc Marquez has a new team, riding a Ducati for Gresini Racing. Marquez was dominant between 2013 and 2019, winning six world titles and placing third in 2015, the only year during that stretch when he failed to win the world championship. Things haven’t gone his way since then as he has only won three race wins in the past three years, and zero victories in 2022 and 2023. His best placing in 2023 was third in Japan.

While the Ducati will make Marquez a much more competitive racer on the track, there are concerns about him making it to race day. Marquez has missed significant time in the past few MotoGP seasons because of injuries.

Francesco Bagnaia

The defending MotoGP world champion, Francesco Bagnaia has been the dominant force in MotoGP over the past three years, winning two world titles and picking up 18 grand prix race victories. Last year, Bagnaia, who rides for Ducati Lenovo, picked up seven wins. However, he faded a bit in the second half of the season, “only”: winning two races of the last 10 of the season. However, he did have four second-place finishes and two thirds during that time.

Bagnaia finished 16 grand prix races last year and made the podium in all but one of those races. He finished 16th in the second grand prix of the year. Bagnaia has been one of the most consistent MotoGP riders over the past three years, it would be a shock to see him slip and lose much ground in 2024.

Jorge Martin

The 26-year-old Jorge Martin has only been racing on the MotoGP circuit for three years. He opened his MotoGP career in 2021 by finishing ninth. He stayed in that same spot in 2022, but he broke through last year and placed second, making a run for the title at the same time Francesco Bagnaia found himself struggling.

Martin rides a Ducati for Prima Pramac Racing. He finished 2023 with four grand prix victories, including three of the last nine races of the year. A fast rider, Martin started every grand prix in 2023, but he had four races that he did not finish. If he can keep up his speed and reduce the number of crashes he has in 2024, Martin could give Bagnaia a run for his money at the top of the standings.

Best bet to win the 2024 MotoGP World Championship

There are a few reasons not to bet on Marc Marquez to win the 2024 MotoGP World Championship. The first is that his betting odds, as the betting favorite, don’t present a good value. The second is that no satellite team has ever won the MotoGP world championship. And lastly, Marquez has a history of missing time with injuries. Something that doesn’t plague Francesco Bagnaia and Jorge Martin.

The betting pick is that the consistent Francesco Bagnaia will win the 2024 MotoGP world championship.
